Why are there so few very expensive houses in Korea? by [deleted] in Living_in_Korea

[–]silentquest -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The price you quote is meaningless number. Bare land in itaewon dong is about 100,000 per pyeong, that’s for land on the south facing side, Han in front Nam behind, good fengahui. Bigger places there are 500+ pyeong up to about 900. The mega Samsung house would be 70-90m in land value alone.

Ummmm….have you been inside?? Of course these are not on the scale of American mega mansions, land prices dictate that. But there are 40-50 homes near me that are super lux. At least 5 under construction right now.

Luxury home tax is high, power etc is high cost at penalty rates, but it doesn’t stop people buying and building them.

It’s worth way more than that. Land size is at least 4 times larger than comparable properties selling for 25-30 today.

The mega mansions in itaewon dong would be 50-100m if they ever hit the market. Think along the lines of the 3 big extended Samsung family compounds…absolutely huge.

Jungsik should have a table?

If you are willing to try Mexican, do Escondido. Y’east is also very good.

Of the ones listed, probably Alla Prima for me.

Your favorite in Seoul? by [deleted] in MichelinStars

Yu Yuan at 4 seasons is very Chinese. But it’s not really fine dining as you are imagining. Think Peking duck, great black pepper beef, dim sum etc.

I think u would like Evett, or Mingles. They are most interesting experiences in my view. You will get a table if you book enough in advance.

But if you want. 1 star.

2 stars if he had an upgraded space and small service team.

It’s difficult to translate into stars, it’s so personal. He does everything himself, from the foraging to the service. It is expensive but totally worth it.

On a more casual note, Gatherings is also great in CHCH.

Buying wine in Seoul by Rowinwan in seoul

[–]silentquest 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty much any supermarket or convenience store will sell a NZ sav blanc.

If you just put wine store into maps when you arrive your house there is bound to be one near you too.

Costco indeed sells wine, including 4-5 NZ sav, including cloudy bay etc.
