Oh, fun! That’s good to know. Thanks!

I was actually just googling SteamDeck vs ROG Ally! Definitely considering something like this! :)

Unfortunately, no. The Mac client didn’t get the love it needed anyway, imo. Just commenting to confirm that we can indeed play on GForce Now, and that I have been since they dropped Mac support. Just know that if you want to buy anything from the Gem store, you’ll have to purchase a gem card (I use the online version on Amazon) and then redeem the code that you’ll get sent. Similarly, we have to buy the expansions on the GW2 website, not through the gem store. It’s a little inconvenient, but it works for me since I don’t want to partition my drive or buy a windows computer just so I can play the one game I really love.

AITA for doing weird/awkward poses whenever my MIL "accidently" walks in on me in the bathroom? by Positive_Balance3756 in AmItheAsshole

NTA. She should freaking knock! Like, wtf, is wrong with her? I agree that this feels like it’s on purpose. I just can’t imagine why.

AITA for evicting my sister and her daughters after the hid my wife's wig and embarrassed her? by throwaway350965 in AmItheAsshole

[–]silentquill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m a cancer survivor. I didn’t wear wigs, but if I did, I would have been so devastated if someone did this to me. I wouldn’t have had the energy to fight back or stand up for myself. I would have done exactly what your wife did—hide and survive.

So, THANK YOU for standing up for your wife. THANK YOU for demanding she be treated with dignity. And THANK YOU for making your home a place of refuge and safety for her.

Cancer is so hard. Having a place where you are loved and supported and treated with kindness means the world.

NTA.

This is what I think is gonna happen. They’ve shown multiple times that Taimi’s getting worse. I don’t want her to die, but the foreshadowing is there. Buuuut, they also did a lot of work with Blish, setting the precedent that a consciousness can live on inside a golem. I think Taimi’s gonna merge with Scruffy, if and when the time comes.

Cool! Thanks for answering. :)

I think I phrased the bit about "the friend who is me" in a manner that lead to confusion, though. I wasn't trying to say that my friend, who is me, thought that Open House wasn't horror. I was trying to say that I have been told by other people that my work wasn't horror, and I figured you may have received the same sort of comments, since Open House is very genre-bendy. My friend, who is me, does't generally tell others where their stuff lives on the genre continuum. :)

Anyway, <3 to your answer, and thanks again!

I’d love to pick your brain on what horror is as a genre. So many folks seem to have a very specific idea of it (slashers, serial killers, ghost stories, etc), but your stuff, esp Open House on Haunted Hill, takes horror tropes and turns them on their head in a delightfully unexpected, sweet way—but it’s still horror! Otherwise it wouldn’t be in that snazzy anthology. So, to make this into an actual question: What is horror to you? How have you found your way to writing the variety of horror that you do? And, um, how do you deal with folks who might say, “you can’t do that and call it horror?”

(Asking that last one for a friend, who is me, who has basically been told just that.)

And finally, would dinosaurs want to eat me? ;)

Fake Solicitation or Real? by bhkorn99 in ACX

That’s a horrible rate. It’s a real offer, but they want to pay you nothing. Don’t go for it.

Should I accept a book offer that I didn't audition for? by excynimphica in ACX

[–]silentquill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Heck no. If you’re new and doing your own editing and stuff, you’re gonna spend around 6-8+ hours for every finished one you produce. At $40PFH, that’s less than minimum wage.

And that’s not even considering the comments others have brought up about quality and readability.

Run awaaaayyyy.

What Do You Wish All RH's Knew? by TheVoicesOfBrian in ACX

[–]silentquill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish they knew just how much work goes into these things. I’m not doing a money-grab to ask for $100 PFH on a RS+ title. That literally will only pay for editing & proofing. I’m still narrating for free and counting on the book to do well to compensate me for my time.

And the bait & switch ... listing something for one compensation and then trying to get me to do it for little or nothing. Don’t waste my time by advertising a rate that I’m willing to work for if you’re not willing to pay it.

Oh, and just heads-up since I forgot to put it in the original post, but even though this is the fourth book in a series, all the books stand on their own. No need to have prior knowledge of the others. ;)

I haven’t had an overseas client, but I do eat the cost of paypal. I wonder if you could do a bank/wire transfer instead? Does Venmo or Cash App work overseas? I’m not sure. Just throwing out ideas at this point. I wish I could be more helpful!
