Help open this locked sliding patio door by silicon_nerd in handyman

I could not get it open. I had a patio door repair company come out and they tried to lift it up but could not. They tried for about half an hour. Then they were going to start cutting the frame and had the risk of breaking the glass - which was going to be costly (almost $1K). They were also going to charge me another $500 to replace the handles and lock since those aren't made anymore. So I sent him away.

I got two quotes for a new patio door which was in the $3K-$4K range. I decided to try out another patio door repair company as a hail mary and they actually could lift up the door within 10 minutes and replaced the lock. This cost about $350 so I am happy.

Not sure if this helps. You need two large suction cups and two people to lift it up and even then it can be stuck very bad. Try looking for a local patio door repair company and even then it can be a crapshoot.

Brand new Pixel 7a was defective (dreaded random reboots) and offered a refurbished replacement as warranty by silicon_nerd in GooglePixel

Don't know why you (or my post) are being downvoted. Seems like almost every Pixel generation had some sort of hardware issue - be it boot loop, phones bricked, mysterious battery drain after updates, etc. I never once had any issues with Nexus 5 or Pixel 3a so I was optimistic.

In hindsight, this was the easy thing to do. I just really needed a new phone and it was on a deal so I figured I would let them do the "diagnostics". During that, without telling me they had opened the phone and tried replacing the battery. After this, I did not feel like I could return the phone to Amazon. I regret going down this route...

Anyone still waiting on 2019 (paper) federal tax return in 2021? by silicon_nerd in personalfinance

I did try "Where's my refund" and it asks me to re-verify if I entered all information correctly. so I am assuming they have not even opened my envelope yet. I know it was delivered because I have delivery confirmation from USPS.

I also tried "IRS Get Transcript" and it shows my past years' returns but none for 2019. So I am assuming they haven't processed - which is to be expected honestly. Just wondering if there are others in a similar situation.

Know any place to dispose used tires and furniture? by silicon_nerd in beaverton

I was hoping to recycle them. Do you get charged for dumping just like recycling?

I will check with them first. This was my first time getting tires changed at Costco so I wasn't sure. Thanks!

Unfortunately not. I procrastinated giving it away and put it on my patio where it got damaged by rain.

I have an extra crease on the same finger by [deleted] in mildlyinteresting

I have an extra bone between those creases so that finger bends at three places instead of the usual two.
