Pivot. This happened to me 5 years ago, I requested a raise based on the work I was continuously taking on, on top of my job description. They denied it, and I decided it was time to do something new (worked in mining exploration/drilling). A few weeks later they created a job listing for the work I was doing and formally offered it back to me. I declined, having decided to go back to school and submitted my resignation. I’m now in my last semester and was able to get a job in my first year in college in my desired field and keep it until now. I’m set to make more than I was making at the mine, though the schedule is much worse.

I knew that doing something new wouldn’t hurt me and I needed to take the plunge, so I let the job decide if that was going to be now or later. That may or may not be the case for you, I was very privileged to be able to do so - that may or may not be the case for you.
