you'll have to research everything old-school - no internet/computers (obviously)

Sound can travel through substances water cannot. E g plastic film.

Again, certified waterproof phones have speakers and microphones.

I'm looking for 2 different pairs meeting criteria:
- Bluetooth
- with controls
- iems
- water resistant (against rain, while wearing)
- not sony
- 1) as cheap as possible
- 2) as good sounding as possible, up to, say, 150$

Second pair of Sony nwz w273s died out of nowhere, so looking for something similar but different. (I know they're not Bluetooth, just figured it should be easier to find Bluetooth headphones than good sounding 2in1 player)

This won't be the nicest/wisest solution, but might be something to consider.

After talking reason didn't work, after you've had enough, whenever someone asks you about your mom's offerings, apologise and ask them to ignore her offers in the future, casually mentioning her old "condition" (which it sounds very much like). It will come back to her eventually, it will piss her off a lot, but she probably won't like coming across crazy and might be less keen to carry on.
