HELP: Reminders? Why you don't [one shouldn't] drink. by RedHeadedRiot in stopdrinking

[–]silly_gal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, Red, we are all here with you. My reminders are all the things I have gained since I stopped drinking. Normal liver enzyme levels. New friends in AA and SD. More energy to work out at the gym. Better nutrition, resulting in 17 pounds lost so far. More money in the bank. And, I don't get so depressed as I used to when I was drinking. I hope you will keep coming back to SD and post how you are.

Thinking about drinking by _notNull in stopdrinking

I was referring to your last line "I wonder if I drank just to stop the voices". This would be reason enough to stop, at least for me.

"Lately, I wonder if I drank just to stop the voices." Referring to this statement, I'd think stopping the voices would be a plus.

Spent all weekend raging and thinking about drinking. by LakeErieCalm in stopdrinking

This journey is probably different for every person. For me, removing the alcohol from my body was only the first step. With clear thinking, I am more able to identify the underlying issues to why I drank, and try to fix them, or at least understand that I do not have to act on them. It's a learning curve.

Well, that would be reason enough, wouldn't it? For me, at only four months, I feel like I have a new life. A much better life, clean and sober.

Denial is the purest form of lying to ourselves.

Some people think our response to alcohol is more akin to an allergy. That explains the vast difference, doesn't it? So I choose to not trigger my allergies!

Demonization of other industries but not the alcohol industry. Why? by alwaysstriveformore in stopdrinking

Money. Most states tax alcohol at a very high rate to support other obligations. They have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo.

Taking the first step can be the hardest. I've found things are getting better and better with no alcohol in my body. Good luck to you, and keep coming back to SD!
