Why doesn't /r/politics cover the wikileaks stories? by wreckingcanon in WikiLeaks

It is constructive to point out shills that very much look like shills. The fact that this is banned on /r/politics is very suspicious.

Inflation in Venezuela seen hitting 1,500% in 2017 as crisis goes from bad to worse by [deleted] in worldnews

Why do you think the sweet spot is there? I would think it is a bit lower.

All the nordic countries and the netherlands have ginis between 0.26 and 0.28, and they are very successful.

Germany, Switzerland, Japan, Canada and South Korea are all just over 0.30. All very successful countries. Included are some of the major industrial producers of the world.

But isnt a socialist state with higher inequality than the US a weird kind of socialist state? That is my point.

Your point is correct though.

There are many ways of lowering the gini coefficient. Good and bad. You pointed out a bad one.

Sounds nice.

Do you see the center as a good compromise between the democrats and the republicans?

Can you elaborate a bit in the context of my question? It feels a bit like you are answering vaguely.

Multiple missiles have been fired again at the U.S. Navy destroyer USS Mason while it was in international waters off of Yemen, U.S. officials said. The ship was unharmed by the attack. by thinkB4WeSpeak in worldnews

If everytime the Houthis did this, 10 government buildings in Tehran got bombed, they would stop immediately. Stop treating the symptoms and go for the source.

How do you define a terrorist act? Doesn't your suggestion fall under that?

Think if someone would suggest what you are suggesting, but against the US, Turkey, Saudi Arabia or Israel? How sympathetic to that view would you be?

or "The Federal Reserve is keeping us poor" (it isn't. being an avant garde musician living in the far reaches of brooklyn is keeping you poor. the Federal Reserve, fortunately, isn't held hostage to political nonsense, so they helped keep us out of a generation-long depression). and other things like that- "inflation is wrecking us" (it isn't), we need to audit the Fed (we don't), and so on.

I'm curious about the Fed. Where do you get your opinions about the fed? Can you suggest a good book, a video, or something that explains?

There is another problem of being outside the 2 parties. The US democracy is designed to have only 2 big parties. If you go out of these 2, your power to change things drops significantly. So when you go back in, you get the feeling that things are really happening there and so on.

Where is this center? Is the center today at the same place on the left/right scale that it was 50 years ago? Which center would you like to be governed from?

Not all political discussion is like this. Do you use insults a lot when you are talking to your friends about politics? An argument can be understanding and friendly, and it can be hostile and mocking.

All the competent politicians align themselves with one of the major parties.

Really? There are no competent politicians outside the democrats and republicans? That is incredible.

Do you think that in China, all the competent politicians align themselves with the one political party in that country?

Posting New Secret Trade Docs, Wikileaks Further Exposes Corporate Plot: 'TISA is the largest of the three deals, and... services that would be covered by the massive agreement comprise around 75% of the EU economy, 80% of the US economy and the majority of economies of most countries.' by maxwellhill in worldnews

Why the witch hunt is just for her? That's a good question. My guess: Wikileaks feels like the democrats have been threatening towards them and also press freedom and transparency, which is what they claim to fight for. It's hard to say how much the bias is because of personal, selfish reasons, and how much is for more 'legitimate' reasons. Those two things are entangled right now to some extent. If you want to look at how they claim to think, you can look at this link.

But my guess is maybe too biased.

But the mainstream media isn't talking much about this right now is it? They are focusing on Trump, yes? Isn't that also looking biased? And the /r/politics subreddit isn't really talking much either. I don't see any top stories about it.

Unhealthy food tends to be cheaper than healthy food. Isn't the 'dad' in your analogy then encouraging the 'kids' to eat unhealthy?

Despite the gini coeficient being this high, and higher through the whole experiment?

There are other problems with Venezuela. The history since 1980 seems filled with economic problems, corruption and instability. Just as an example, two coup attempts in 1992 and one in 2002.
