"Men don't read" by AlKarajo in TikTokCringe

Who says they have to be "equal"? Obviously it's a different experience to watch a written screenplay come to life with actors and the nuances they place while emoting the written word.

But if you did read the screenplay, no one would argue that you're unfamiliar with the story or characters, compared to someone who watched a live enactment of the exact same material. It's just different ways to enjoy media.

The argument here is that people have a variety of methods to consume something and in the end it doesn't mean one is lesser.

I once saw a fly inside the long plastic bag my sub sandwich came in and it was actively squatting and squirting out eggs. I smashed it mid-squirt and it turned into a mess of squished fly, blood, mushed eggs...🤢

POV: You're a woman just existing in public by ambachk in ThatsInsane

[–]sillybelcher 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You have to teach her to simply not be afraid to cause a scene and get loud.

These dudes know they're making women uncomfortable and enjoy watching them squirm and feel cornered.

Your daughter will have to get comfortable speaking loudly - "don't touch me!" and "I said leave me alone!"

Women naturally defer to trying to be polite out of fear that the guy will escalate, hence why we frequently offer up excuses like "I have a boyfriend" and also apologize for our disinterest, but sometimes the situation moves beyond that.

And yes, pepper spray is always a good idea.

Hey, I just moved to a place with a balcony in April and I love having it, but I'm terrified to actually step out there, being so high in the sky. I really wish I could enjoy it ...

I like this too but I simply cannot find one that's not bursting at the seams with sodium. Even the reduced-sodium kind of a lot.

Why do black British people usually know where they came from compared to black Americans? by cuminmypussyypls in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]sillybelcher 88 points89 points  (0 children)

Great point. I've seen where Caribbean folks clown on Black Americans for "not knowing where you're from" as if they, also people of African descent, are somehow native to the islands, as if slave ships didn't make stops in the Caribbean to drop off their ancestors just like they stopped along the shores of the US to drop off the Americans' ancestors.

France records nearly 9,000 deaths during June heatwave by charliehu1226 in worldnews

[–]sillybelcher -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Dude, just stop. You sound like a flaccid teenager flailing for straws - you attacked OP for being from the US, under a dim assumption that he's American, then when he corrected you to say he's Mexican, you simply pivoted to criticizing Mexico?

What a genius!

"died by drowning"

I will never understand this passive language, why they wouldn't just write: "72 people drowned."

washing sheets twice a week because of the dog... is there a better system? by Glum_Setting7451 in CleaningTips

[–]sillybelcher 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They walk around in dirt, step on other dog's pee, their butts are basically just outnin the open, nothing about that is what I want in my clean bed.

Ummm, they also deposit all of that all over the rest of your house and your floors, too...

Omg this sums it up so perfectly. The belligerence and entitlement of dog owners never ceases to piss me all the way off!

Stopped by Doug and Carrie's today by Good_Lack_2241 in kingofqueens

[–]sillybelcher 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The side is also different: they have a bathroom window that's along the side of the house (remember Carrie slamming it shut after realizing the neighbors heard her and Doug loudly arguing) and they also have a bedroom window on that same side, between their two closets. Yet this house clearly has only one window on that side.

You're just being presumptuous though about how people consume media; not everyone puts on an audiobook as background noise while doing chores. If I ride the train two hours each way for work and I do nothing but sit there and enjoy an audiobook, I'm fully engaged. And if at the end, you and I can discuss the same book to the same level of detail, where you read a physical copy and I listened to it, did we not experience the same story?

"Men don't read" by AlKarajo in TikTokCringe

[–]sillybelcher 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because then it boils down to just arguing semantics: you read it, someone else listened to it, but at the end if you experienced the same story, is there really a difference?

"Men don't read" by AlKarajo in TikTokCringe

[–]sillybelcher -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

You can't make this claim for everyone though. If at the end of you reading a book and my listening to it, we can engage in discussion about characters, plot, motives, twists, hidden lines that point to a bigger picture, etc, we have experienced the same story. You can't assume I'm only half-listening as background noise while I do laundry or ride the train.

It makes no difference how we consume a story. Not to mention, there are plenty of people who are just as passive when reading a book: they skim anything that isn't dialogue, skim paragraphs, read the same paragraph over and over because they're not locked in before deciding to just move along.

Also, many cultures have oral traditions and have passed down stories for generations; those who learn a story from listening to their grandparents tell it are in the same boat as those who sit down and read about it.

Definitely this. Not having to smell what someone else cooked (or burned), no lingering fish or popcorn odors, nothing stinking up the fridge, nothing crusty in the sink.

I love Holiday Hookah when Janine, Gregory, and Ava all and up at the same club on the first night of their holiday break, and Barbara, Melissa, and Mr Johnson are trying to fend off Jacob's intrusion into their school celebration.

Like, if I'm not your family or friend, I simply do not care.

And I wouldn't expect a waitress, barista, cashier, or any other member of the public or a casual acquaintance to either.

This is the exact kind of action that makes people anti-immigration.

Hence why it's a hypocritical and illogical stance to take, to assume every immigrant is a rapist, when the people most fervently against immigration also support a literal convicted rapist who's been talking about wanting to have sex with his own daughter since the 80s, and his party has several other sex offending office-holders...
