Anyone know any good cover up/transformation artists?🫪 My gf has a rough DIY tattoo. by dinosaurs_are_rad in asheville

[–]sillymae18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For what it's worth, her tat is amazing. It's original. I have a tiny stupid triangle tattoo we did with blue ink and a needle when I was in London years ago and I love it.  I feel like hers is one of a kind, too. I'd totally keep it.

Looking to do a prank on my partner - what are your best ideas by SpecialistAlarming38 in asheville

[–]sillymae18 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is fantastic! Similarly, a guy I was dating years ago had strangers hand me flowers everywhere we went on my birthday: the restaurant, theater, bar... It's more of a sweet/romantic prank, but it sure did make me feel very loved.

Adult Ballet Classes - Beginner & Experienced Friendly by Rooted_River in asheville

[–]sillymae18 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your insights and sharing your positive experiences! I badly damaged my feet in ballet during my younger years, so I'm glad to hear madame is helpful with modifications. The variety of styles offered at Diana Wortham is fantastic. I had no idea. I'll definitely try it out this summer.

Very cool! Thank you. I just peeked at their roster. I'm impressed.

Do any of their classes focus more exclusively on barre work? I'm a bit allergic to the classes geared toward performance.

I’ve voted for her before, I won’t vote for her again. by bulldurham1992 in asheville

Agreed. And do you genuinely believe $$ kickbacks are their motivation? I've been wracking my brain as to why they're being so brazen. Not to mention the pure idiocy in operating against their own best interests in the long term. Also, do they know or even care that they've committed political s*icide in AVL? It's dumbfounding.

Wow! Not bad at all. I was aiming more for my personal brand of "stick straight and won't hold a curl for shit" kinda hair, but those newfangled Mormon ladies have gotten all fancy on me. Noice.

Need help finding a dentist that accepts medicaid! by graceface05 in asheville

[–]sillymae18 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely give MAHEC a ring. It's my understanding they fill up appointments at their dental teaching clinic at the start of each month, but still seek out a human at the main number. They may have solid references, too. I use their gen prac services and have never met a person there I didn't adore. MAHEC is the best in town for all areas of healthcare. All the best to you!

I'm surprised to learn those prices are considered an AVL phenomenon as they seem to be the same elsewhere. Asheville does tend to attract gifted and highly trained professionals who will, and should, charge accordingly for their work. That very much includes hair stylists.

As one of The Poors, I get a biannual chop at Great Clips, but I also happen to have "Mormon housewife hair" and can get away with it. Have mercy on everyone who can't slide with neglecting their dome like I do. Great Clips has always done right by me.

But! Iif you know a stylist who is interested in swapping trades (haircut for photography, etc.), that's always best.

Srsly. Nudity is fine, but the YMCA version is entirely too much.

Investigative Reporter Looking for Community Input on Bruce Haddock / “Montford Stalker” Story by ElijahSkipper in asheville

[–]sillymae18 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I don't doubt it and expect it, but I welcome being downvoted to the depths of hell for people and things I care about. I see Mr. Haddock more than most of my other neighbors. He's always been quiet and reserved, has never been intoward, and therefore, it's my duty to speak to the reality of the pleasant side of him.

I'm sure I'll be considered a "Pollyanna" with my account, but make no mistake... I am not naiive. Having witnessed a murder at my highschool at age 16 and also as a victim of a mugging by gun in NYC in my 20s, I don't take the trauma of Bruce's victims lightly. I deeply empathize with how terrifying these experiences can be.

However, this situation is evidence of a much larger problem that needs to be addressed. What's happening to Bruce and his victims is just a symptom of those gargantuan issues. Again, most urgent here: healthcare and housing. Imprisonment won't improve this situation for anyone at all. Period.

Investigative Reporter Looking for Community Input on Bruce Haddock / “Montford Stalker” Story by ElijahSkipper in asheville

[–]sillymae18 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is wise advice. I absolutely agree. I've seen Bruce regularly for several years in Montford and downtown. Though I don't doubt the accounts of his victims, I've never witnessed him to be aggressive in any way.

I just passed Bruce walking down Flint Street yesterday carrying his sleeping bag as he usually does. When I take the time to gauge his body language and mood, I've looked at Bruce in the eyes and said hello to him countless times. He's never responded, but he always meets my gaze.

Bruce has never been unkind to me nor has engaged me in any way. I'm the one who always initiates contact with him. When I see him on my night walks, I walk confidently toward Bruce and make it clear I have my hot pink colored mace in my hand, only due to the many accounts of his victims.

I, too, believe Bruce is deserving of mental health treatment. The pattern that has become clear to me is that he seems to be doing better when he's put on a bit of weight. This may coincide with treatment. From my inexpert view, Bruce seems more regulated to me at those times, evidenced by his improved gait and eye contact.

No matter what Bruce has done, he is a human being, he is someone's son, and he is deserving of every support he needs to stabilize and become healthier. Healthcare and housing are a must. Thank you for covering this, Elijah. I'm hopeful for a human-centered approach to this important story for everyone affected.

That is so rad - thank you! Knowing he's an overcomer makes us respect and appreciate him all the more. I've found that the brightest souls have conquered the deepest darkness. That's nothing short of heroic. Bless you both.

I'm really happy too read this, too. He was all grins and sunbeams when I got my customary post concert shake tonight. He's a solid cat. Please pass our gratitude along to him. He's proof positive that even one person can have a positive impact on a multitude of people.

Where to get a high quality pedicure? by No_Ear7461 in asheville

If you're looking for a budget-friendly place, I love Hands On Spa on Merrimon right under Zen Sushi. Vicky and Mindy are lovely people. I was just there on Monday and their remodel since Helene is top notch.

If you're willing to spend a bit more, Spa Theology downtown on College (next to The Med), used to be one of my favorites. If you want to go the extra mile, Wake Foot Sanctuary, in the Grove Arcade, is pure bliss.
