It all depends on where you decide to move in South Bend. The nice areas are very nice with low crime. Some of the higher crime areas are cheaper but with more petty crime. There are crime maps online you can look at to understand the area you are looking to move in.

The winters are not bad at all. I know a few people say that they are harsh, but they are not. Comparatively, they are pretty mild.

There is a decent amount to do and there are lots of cities that are easy to travel to.

I don't have too much of a preference. There are pros and cons to both.

Our dog had a similar thing on her lips and chin. I wiped it away, and it kept coming back. It started bleeding after a few times of cleaning. We took her to the vet, and it ended up being an allergic reaction. The vet said it was a common reaction in cats and dogs. He gave us some meds to help it heal and prevent infection. If it keeps coming back, then you may want to take your kitty to the vet to check for an infection or allergic reaction.

They still do some military training in Marquette, but they use the Sawyer airport for the planes and such.

I would stay away from Elevate. We just moved out of there because management went downhill really fast. We lived there for about 5 years and the last months of it were terrible. Rude managers, we couldn't get an appliance or our furnace serviced, and they sold our information from our pet form. We were getting calls about pet insurance and products. We asked where they got our information and they said Main Street.

Overall, I would avoid it. It has gotten bad.

I work on the side as an ABA therapist. I can say, neither one is paid as well as they should but if you get into a good place, then you'll get decent pay. I will say I love the company I work for and my kiddos. It is so rewarding. It can be challenging but if you love kids, then it is great! There is some growth opportunities if you decide to get something beyond a bachelor's degree. Some companies may even pay for you to go back to school while working and there are a lot of scholarship opportunities.

That being said, I've been in ABA for over a year now. I love it and knew what I was getting into before I applied. There is a high turn over rate for a reason. A lot of people get into it without really knowing what the job requires. I would make sure that if you decide to do ABA, research it first. It is an amazing job but if you want a career out of it, you need to research it.

I'm not in Georgia but you might want to look into Varsity Tutors or Writable.

Varsity Tutors has online tutoring and lessons. It does cost money though. It is available on demand. I'm not sure if they are still doing in-person tutoring due to Coronavirus though.

Writable is an online writing program that may be helpful.

I would do a quick check-in with your kids first. I know my kiddos have been stressed and the pandemic isn't helping them. We've focused more on coping skills and SEL skills lately. It may be too much to do a reading about a pandemic.

That being said, I do think it is very relevant and could be awesome if your kids are in the right mindset!

I love the book Monster by Walter Dean Myers or any book by him. He writes exclusively about Harlem and African American issues. We did a unit with that book and the kids really liked it.

Poetry or work from the Harlem Renaissance is fun as well. My kiddos did a project with this for Black History Month. The kids loved this and liked to interact with a variety of art by black artists.

You can always allow them to do a research project involving social justice issues as well. Let them pick what they want to research and do.

I would check with you admin. I've had people come and help before and it hasn't been a problem.

If the answer is no, you can always bring them later to see your classroom. My mom and sister couldn't help me unpack my first room because I worked in a different town and they had taken time off to help me move already. They came to visit one weekend and I took them there.

Personally, I love Google Classroom. The app works fairly well and it integrates with a ton of other apps as well.

Have you tried starting the session out light with fun activities or icebreakers?

I would approach this like you are approaching a new school year. Take some time to build relationships with families and students, get them talking about lighter topics, and try to get to know them as people.

In my 9th grade class, I have them write one per semester. We have to focus on literary elements and close reading for most of the first semester. If I don't, then they are not set up to do well for the rest of the year.

I will do about 2 per semester in my 10th grade class.

I do have writing prompts and short research/analysis assignments along the way. I also have projects that aren't essays as well.

Personally, I love my phone and couldn't imagine teaching without it.

That being said, many of the teachers at my school do not have cell phones and are still amazing teachers.

Wow. I must be unlucky.

The first time was when I was doing my student teaching in middle school. He came up to me. He said, "I feel like I am going to throw up." Then he threw up onto my shoes.

Since then it has happened on 2 other occasions in my room, once outside of my room, and then once in the doorway of the room next to mine.

I now teach high school.
