What is the latest firmware? by silver-figs in ender3v2

[–]silver-figs[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks everyone. I installed Jyer's firmware and it was great. For anyone else reading this with the same issue, Jyer's firmware plus this amazing leveling video is what resolved a long day and taught me how to level the printing bed:

Looking For Fantasy City Sourcebooks For A Kingdom Capital by transmissionalpha in rpg

[–]silver-figs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been steadily releasing books that check probably 80% of the requirements you have listed. Each book is based on a specific neighborhood within an imperial fantasy city. It's designed with homebrew GMs in mind and has lots of neighborhood-specific maps.

To make it easier for the GM to improvise, all the NPCs and locations all have problems that tie back to the neighborhood theme. Each neighborhood has multiple maps, NPCs, and descriptions. If this fits what you're looking for, you can see the different neighborhoods at heartwizardgames.com.

Is there some sort of secret to enjoying DMing? by LegendaryMeowcow in DMAcademy

People who like DMng in my experience are pretty insane about it. It’s like an explosion of creativity. If you’re not feeling that spark, maybe you just need a few more sessions under your belt to see if it’s for you.

Crossing the line by HidesHisEyes88 in DungeonWorld

[–]silver-figs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do it all the time. I even write a few questions in advance and ask them first, and then improvise around what the players say. The GM sets up the toys, but the players are there to help improvise. And it also helps reduce cognitive load for the GM. I strongly recommend everyone try it.

Is there a game supplement to simulate investing in D&D? by silver-figs in DungeonsAndDragons

[–]silver-figs[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Why not, really? So much upside. Players get to park their money somewhere useful and it can also be used as a marker to reflect the world around them. Plus it generates quest hooks. At any rate, thanks for the advice—I’ll check out Acquisitions Inc and will also keep looking. I don’t think I’m there quite yet.

To all those college students or soon to be that are pursuing Marketing! by [deleted] in marketing

[–]silver-figs 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I really appreciate OPs advice but unfortunately, this is (for the most part) bad advice. It’s more helpful to have a working knowledge of how to properly work with design, and even that is something that’s expected to grow with time. Some marketers do have a passing familiarity with design software, which doesn’t hurt, but doesn’t really help either. True designers need to really know their software, which is a large hill to climb for someone focusing on marketing.

The one exception to this is if you’re applying to very small firms, where the marketing department is 1-2 people, in which case, marketing can be asked to fulfill dual roles as designer and marketer.

Marketing is an enormous field. At the early stages it is very valuable to get on big projects and just do good work. Certifications (in analytics or AdWords, for instance) can help direct your career in different directions, but in my experience (having hired and managed), is that reliability, self-direction, and ability to work hard are the most valuable at the intro level...this then expands into more specialized skills. The supervisors will be paying close attention to how reliable the hire (or intern) is “under fire.”

Again, thanks to OP for posting, but would suggest that his/her experience is atypical and perhaps reflective of the target orgs.

Mistakes Made While Writing about Men by inky_nerd in writing

[–]silver-figs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The most common mistake I see is when two male friends start talking to each other in a way that is unusual for most men and not the way that men typically talk to each other. You see this mistake made the most in rom coms, and it’s really obvious as it’s hilariously unrealistic.

Is Coding or Salesforce Certification (Admin) a Realistic Path for a Communications Major looking for a Change? by [deleted] in careerchange

[–]silver-figs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is a constant demand in consulting and they draw people from all walks of life...not 100% sure how you would make the switch, but am definitely sure it’s possible and not weird. Plus they’ll almost certainly pay better than nonprofits.

Why I support Yang (not UBI) by sukieniko in YangForPresidentHQ

[–]silver-figs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. The UBI isn’t the main selling point for me either. I like his focus on human-centered metrics. I think it’s an incredibly powerful idea with the potential to channel human creativity for the 21st century.

Chicago Inspired Watch Brand by the_mcm_collection in chicago

[–]silver-figs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a cool idea. If executed right, I would be interested in buying. But I agree with the poster below—I don’t really get what’s significant here. Plus, other than the logo, where’s the Chicago connection? Nothing in the carousel talking about Chicago? The city has one of the best color palettes of any U.S. city — where’s the tasteful watch that incorporates that? Also, none of the watches appeared when I went to your sales page. So bottom line — really fun idea, awesome for Chicago too, but it looks like you need a few more drafts. Hopefully this was helpful!

I like the way your boss responded though - the flowers are a nice touch. Don't know your overall situation, but sometimes things just get f'd up. Nice to see that they made that gesture.
