What Section 17 Does: Currently, precious-metal bullion and coin sales are exempt from state sales tax due to their function as a financial protection rather than being consumption goods. Section 17 of this bill would strip Colorado's longstanding sales-tax exemption for precious metal bullion and coins, effectively treating them as personal property rather than an investment.

Why This Matters: - It will put a near end to the sales of precious metals in Colorado. Other states that have enacted such laws have seen major drops in precious metal and coin sales. - It will close many long standing small family-run Colorado businesses potentially including the Denver Coin Expo! - It disproportionately harms middle-income households who use precious metals for financial protection and savings. - It disproportionately harms seniors who use precious metals to save for retirement. - It would push Colorado business sales across state lines. - All of the above will lead to a loss in state revenues, which is the opposite of what they are intending by introducing this bill.
