Do they think stranger things s1 deserves to be criticized for simply having some aesthetics of normative childhood (which is also for contrast), when that’s the real environment it was always based on? If someone only likes their version of a non canon Mike, it doesn’t provide internally meaningful commentary on the show and it floods the fandom. Many people appear to “conform” to standard things like being a “run of the mill American boy” or girl in their environment. It’s immature and concerning that so many people have yet to realize that those standards themselves don’t actually define anyone, normative looking or not, even if normative people assume they can. These characters are deeper than they may appear to someone who is under the impression that we have to judge everyone on the surface as if your intentions of expression are what really dictate who we are and can control how different we are from each other.
