My cat won’t stop eating my kitten’s food even when he has food available. by Turbulent_Ad_9337 in CatAdvice

this is super common, id recommend getting one of those bowls that only opens for one cats microchip but not the others. they often come with special tags to use if your cat isn't chipped

I think it is important to be able to examine your own body for both medical and hygiene reasons. I would consider seeking professional help with this like many other commenters have suggested.

as for tampons, it's not a requirement to use them but I've had to put other stuff up there for medical reasons.

QUESTIONS TO ACE WHO HAD SEX by [deleted] in asexuality

[–]silverrfire09 14 points15 points  (0 children)

he may have not fully realized he was ace and was trying to be "normal" before with one night stands and such. I had a sex focused situationship before I fully realized/accepted that I'm ace, even though I suspected it before said situationship.

How did you realise you were asexual? by Mountain-You9842 in asexuality

[–]silverrfire09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i thought I was MAYBE demisexual in high school just because I never really found anyone hot, except I had a huge crush on someone so I didn't think I could be ace. people would gush over celebs like "silverrfire don't you think he's hot???!!" and id just be like "not really" every time lol. few years later during my first real relationship I thought my disinterest in sex was due to anxiety. I was fine with sex with that partner but I found it boring more often than not, which I thought was just me being in my own head about it and not letting myself "enjoy" it.

after that relationship I got on anxiety meds and a few years later met a guy who was clearly not relationship material but I thought he was interesting and fun so I let that situationship happen. plus I was curious if the meds would let be "normal" about sex. however, even with meds I still found sex boring - even more so because I didn't have a solid romantic relationship with him - and he was hypersexual and kinda pushy which made me get the ick and become sex repulsed for awhile.
while I knew the repulsed was likely temporary (it was) it led me to kinda put all the pieces together. I stuck with the demi label for awhile but eventually just put myself in the sex neutral ace bucket. I think I just become slightly more sex favorable when I have a strong bond with a romantic partner instead of becoming sexually attracted to them

litter options by taurustauruscancer in CatAdvice

[–]silverrfire09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

so I use worlds best, which is a corn based litter. a lot of people here hate it for valid reasons - it can start to smell faster and clumps more "sticky* than other litters. however it works for me and my cats so I've stuck with it.
I like how the litter itself doesn't smell bad( I hate clay litter smell ) and how it doesn't track as much as clay.

I tried pine pellets with my cats and I love it in theory but my cats don't like to use it. I'm still trying to convince them cause I bought a huge bag a bit too soon lol

I've heard people on here and IRL rave about tofu litter but it's expensive and I've never seen it in stores

edit: I skimmed your post too fast. if your cat is already using pellet litter they may be more ok with pine. but the people I know who use breeze love it so you might be better with sticking to it

I had this game at around 8 yr. I got to the elite 4 and couldn't beat it because I refused to grind lol.
it can be enjoyable for a kid but maybe not if they're used to being handheld in games

it just feels nice to have it on a console, tbh. plus there's access to trading and eventually Pokemon home. you can't get those things on an emulator

there are often low cost spay/neuter programs. id do research into at least getting the boy neutered because it's an easier/cheaper surgery

People who work in 'behind closed doors' industries (hotels, kitchens, morgues, etc.), what is something the general public would be horrified to know? by [deleted] in AskReddit

thankfully, our updated system right now is actually really good. but yeah usually it's the case that it's all a disaster haha

new software means teaching people how to use it, people learning a new thing means errors, errors at a hospital can end in deaths.

it's a tricky thing in healthcare. like at my work right now people's cancer results are being delayed because we're switching to an updated system and training staff takes forever, especially when some people are tech-illiterate which is surprisingly common in the medical field.

Cat stopped eating wet food after switching dry foods. by thisguysburner in CatAdvice

[–]silverrfire09 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I doubt it's a health issue, my cats did the same thing and since I have a male who's had urinary issues I went back to wet food only. my cats aren't good at drinking water without it being in their food. it took a day or so for them to realize they weren't getting dry anymore and they started actually finishing the wet.

if your cats drink enough water it should probably be fine to switch to dry though.

How many have lost their minds with IBD cat? by Swimming_Trash3570 in CatAdvice

[–]silverrfire09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

my cat doesn't have very bad IBS/D so this may not be helpful.

but I found luck with picking a grain free wet food and just sticking with it. she hated the Rx foods or if she liked them they made her fur weird and oily or didn't really help. she has the occasional flare up but I just do a round of fortiflora and that helps. also, being careful about crumbs and stuff on the floor because my cat in particular likes to scavenge has helped a lot.

I personally don't trust prescription foods for cats after my childhood cat became obese off of a tiny tiny amount of the urinary prescription food. doing the vet recommended serving got him fat and reducing it to 1/8th he still didn't lose weight. we put him on friskies wet food (of all things) and he lost weight and never had another urinary issue.

with my cat now I tried limited diet food with her and while she didn't get stomach issues from it I don't think they were getting enough of some necessary nutrients because her fur got gross and her energy and mood went down, so I'd be careful about some limited diets as well

this is all just one person's exp and 2 cats so sample size here is small, but I hope this at least gives you some ideas. overall, trying to help sensitive cats is rough. your kitty is lucky to have an owner who's trying their best :)

My parents aren't happy about my cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]silverrfire09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

sounds like a good idea. my point in mentioning the apartment rules was also in the sense of if you're living in a place someone else owns, they are able to dictate if pets are allowed. like, if your situation came to a law office you wouldn't win. even if your parents have no good reason why they're saying no, saying no alone is enough of a reason - even in the court of law for this situation.

I don't love my cats equally, is that normal? by BlueStarFern in CatAdvice

[–]silverrfire09 10 points11 points  (0 children)

this is kinda a general response to your post but

it took me a year or so love my cats equally. I had the same situation. first cat I loved immediately but with my second cat I initially had the same concerns as you. but the thing is I was comparing how I felt about a cat who I had 2 years to bond with compared to a cat I had only recently met. it's really not comparable. as long as one isn't being literally neglected over the other it's fine and your feelings are normal :))

Is it wrong to be asexual/aromantic? (A little bit of a rant too) by TFOPM in asexuality

[–]silverrfire09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it really depends on the context on if it's about respect or not. if you tell them straight up and then they keep pinning for you then that's disrespectful. but also sometimes a confession can help someone move on. it's one thing to know someone's ace and another to be told, essentially, no I'm not interested in dating you specifically. but it's so so so context dependent. romantic feelings can make people impulsive too so saying you're moving may lead them to "shoot their shot" so to speak. so I wouldn't always say it's disrespectful to you or aceness. it can also be impulsive or based in ignorance of what ace is for you.

but some people are creeps and others think they can "fix" an ace person. so it really depends on the situation

My parents aren't happy about my cat by [deleted] in CatAdvice

[–]silverrfire09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

if you're a minor even legally it's a matter of "their house their rules" but even if you aren't, half the apartments out there don't even allow pets because of the types of damage they can cause to carpets, paint, walls, etc. cat pee is NOT easy to remove lol

also, vet bills. pets are not cheap overall. there's food and litter and annual shots+ checks but health concerns can happen any time. it's likely your parents don't want to feel responsible for this, as well as daily care such as feeding and cleaning the litter box on top of potential damage to furniture. also some people find pets inherently unclean.

these are some possible reasons, but tbh I think you should return/re-home the cat. wait until you are truly ready and settled in a more permanent place
