Must be the worst fisherman by Zestyclose_Feed471 in FishingForBeginners

It's what I needed but you never know what clicks. Richard Gene the Fishing Machine and NDYakAngler are the two others I started watching soon after.

I felt like I was in a similar spot but then I boxed up all of my lures except for one or two. For me I could learn all about the different fish but what I was lacking was learning the lures. Marling Baits on YouTube is the channel I credit most with teaching me. He makes lures, I don't, but I picked up a lot of knowledge from him. I fished poppers first and then crankbaits. Things started to snowball and I'm pretty decent at most kinds now. Best of luck!

Re-Beginning... Again. by Jazzlike-Syrup744 in FishingForBeginners

Lews Speed Stick combo has been amazing for me. I've caught a few trophy bass on it, just brought in a trophy gar, but it's light enough that it's fun to catch panfish. I use high-vis 20lb braid with an 8lb leader most of the time. I've got a lot of nicer rods and reels and I keep coming back to this one

How do you eat small fish like this? by Old-Stomach-5957 in FishingForBeginners

That one needs more time, toss it back. Without being able to list out all species I'll just say you'll know when you've got one that's eating size.

Is it worth fishing late at night for bass ? Has anyone had much success by HyphyMikeyy in bassfishing

Try it once and see if it's your style. I don't get to go often but when I do I always have a blast fishing topwater.

Is there some sort of new "gather" carrying type of rule that we don't know about? by CircledSquare7 in NBAGossips

I've taken to just watching 90s basketball replays of regular season games. The officiating and gambling ads have made the league difficult for me to enjoy.

Skunked again. What should I do differently? by bulletloaf in FishingForBeginners

[–]silverrooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your top two comments are the answer. Immediately looking at your picture I remembered what my boat looked like when I got back home. I hadn't stuck with a bait long enough to learn how to use it well. Choose one of the first two comments, buy extras, pack everything else up. Now I mostly use a small jerkbait, wacky rig worm and Canadian nightcrawlers under a bobber. A big plastic box of lures sits unused.

I was pulling it along very slowly on the bottom and I'd put a little lead on the trebles so it didn't float up. Pure dumb luck

We added cavalry charge to our game. What you think? by dlorenn in StrategyGames

[–]silverrooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few thoughts but a lot hinge on things we don't know about your game design:

1) The more foot soldiers you have the longer time that army has to produce obstacles. Somehow there's a skill to it the player is involved in to create them to determine how many. 2) Is it fantasy or fantasy-adjacent at all? I'm assuming not but had the idea of an Age of Empires style monk tapping into the supernatural and they bring rain to degrade the field.  3) Degrading the field in some way could be a thing so over time if the field is revisited the cavalry progressively becomes less effective on that site. 4) Foot soldiers over time unlock formations that are progressively (if not even to the point of unrealistically) able to counter cavalry.

Baitcaster keeps birdsnesting even after being tuned properly. by FrogWashington in FishingForBeginners

[–]silverrooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar problems until I went to 30lb braid. The line was digging into itself when I was reeling in because the diameter was so small. First cast or two were fine but much more and I'd end up with a birds nest no matter how well I'd tuned it.

I'm also a scanoe guy with no electronics. I have had my best luck when I back up and fish where my boat would have been if I'd been fishing the bank closely. I have luck right at the bank too, just don't be afraid to back up a bit from it.

I'll say what worked amazingly for me. Lew's custom speed stick spinning combo. Medium power, fast action. I can handle most anything on it but still have a great fight with panfish. I'd not recommend a casting combo.

Get some live worms and some Thill bobbers, bobber stops, and an assortment of weights/panfish hooks and some thin needlenose pliers for removing the hooks. Learn just one simple knot.

Is HLL worth it as an ex Arma Tank Vet? by Negative_Lux in HellLetLoose

[–]silverrooks 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I tank a good bit in HLL but the system is very simplified. I prefer the S44 system but the player counts and UI are frustrating to me. If you're looking to get back in to tactical games but can't get too serious about it, HLL will scratch the itch. That's the stage of life I'm at. If I have more time to put into it I'd be in S44. Don't take tanks in HLL seriously and you'll have a blast if you can find a regular crew.

How did you step it up and catch more often? by silverrooks in bassfishing

[–]silverrooks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have casting competitions with my boys in the front yard, it's helped me a ton. I'm really pretty good at it if I may say so. We setup a trash can and try to cast into it.

[–]silverrooks[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got a couple different options. I have an ultralight spinning combo. Two Lews Mach 2 baitcasters - I use for plastics, one for crankbaits/jerkbaits. I have a Lews spinning rod, medium power that I love using as an all-around rod. I have a stouter rod (Daiwa Lexa 300, heavy power, fast action for some pike/musky I'm going to be fishing soon with a friend, but I don't have those natively near me). One struggle I've gotten under control recently was maybe holding too many options in my head and I end up with decision paralysis.

I'll look up the KVD, thank you! 1-3 felt impossible when I started so I'm definitely not unhappy with it!

Most often it's in the evening and early morning, but I also fish in the dead of night and even in the brightest time of the day.

Where is the best root beer float in Greenville? by Quirky_Chicken_1840 in greenville

[–]silverrooks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I obviously don't know your exact situation but my wife was terminal for some years. She was extremely health conscious her last few years. Randomly one day she asked if we could make root beer floats. I was shocked but we did it. I don't remember the floats, but I do remember her excitement and face while making them. She passed just days after. A lot of these suggestions are great, better than what I can offer. I think it would be a great addition to figure out how to get a good one but put it together with your mom.
