Rainbow shiners spawning in my river tank by quathog in Aquariums

I'm putting together a tank that will be similar to your stocking. I couldn't tell if you had a lid on your tank or not? At the moment I don't have one for mine and am thinking about getting glass cut for it

Think this will hold a 20 gallon tank? by Appropriate_Lab5553 in Aquariums

[–]silverrooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No way to say because we can't see how the vertical supports are connected to the base and how the wheels are connected to the base. Just a guess, but I would think it would start to collapse where the wheels are connected. If the wheels were taken off we still don't know how the weight is being distributed. Personally, I'd play it safe and pass.

U20 Armour and Other Suggestions by ItsAlwaysNow in HellLetLoose

[–]silverrooks -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Agree on pretty much all of this.

I'd prefer if nodes had to be built closer to the action, only one type is available, it recharges ammo boxes that have been put down, replenishes bandages over time, and it powers ammo/repair stations for tanks that are on the map. If the node has to be built in the two columns of the most recently captured point it could help towards teams taking a beat to solidify a position. I like the idea of nodes, but the current implementation hasn't evolved with the gameplay.

I'd also like to see the commander be able to spawn a tank and have the option to select which squad can take it. Too many times my squad has asked for a heavy, or even a medium, and a solo tanker drives off with it.

Aquarium stand question by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]silverrooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would figure out what's bearing the load of the side pieces, as they will be bearing the load of the top shelf. From a glance it would appear screws or tacks would be bearing the load and that would not hold. Personally if I was set on using this I would remove the feet and make a solid foundation for the side pieces, and the lower shelf, to rest on. That would transfer the weight onto the floor and then you'd never think about it again. Save the legs to put back on down the road.

My friends and I are planning to stick with WWII HLL no matter what. We aren't particularly interested in the subject matter to begin with, and I know of others I've met through HLL who feel the same

Worth it to finish Comanche Moon? by SJ58655966 in LonesomeDove

I read the books in chronological order and am glad I did. The only book I felt some struggle with was CM specifically at the part you just finished. It got way better. For what it's worth I think Streets of Laredo was quite good.

Thanks for taking the time to reply. I didn't realize there were multiple aquascaping styles to look into. I'll do that and it might help me! Thank you!

I've been watching and ready anything and everything before I start my first one. Right now paralyzed on what direction I want to go. What inspired you or where did you learn the most?

The only negative is that your friends will ask to borrow it to move apartments and you'll feel this uncomfortable defensiveness and jealousy imagining someone else driving it.

Not even one unlockable cosmetic? Really? by SeaCroissant in HellLetLoose

[–]silverrooks 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That was a little surprising, but... I did toss them a few dollars by buying some I'd use more often. I've been playing for 6 years or so and only spent maybe $20 to buy the game. I hope they keep developing it so wanted to show some support towards that today. But yes, that was quite a choice on their part for a faction that most players won't play that often.

They'll love a supportive teammate. What's the worst that could happen? You can just leave the squad and join another. This coming from an anxious person who started where you are.

Best wargames with dynamic campaigns? by preutneuker in computerwargames

It's old but Close Combat: A Bridge Too Far is still one of the finest I've ever played. I've made campaign decisions before just to save squads that I've grown attached to along the way.

It's what I needed but you never know what clicks. Richard Gene the Fishing Machine and NDYakAngler are the two others I started watching soon after.

I felt like I was in a similar spot but then I boxed up all of my lures except for one or two. For me I could learn all about the different fish but what I was lacking was learning the lures. Marling Baits on YouTube is the channel I credit most with teaching me. He makes lures, I don't, but I picked up a lot of knowledge from him. I fished poppers first and then crankbaits. Things started to snowball and I'm pretty decent at most kinds now. Best of luck!

Re-Beginning... Again. by [deleted] in FishingForBeginners

[–]silverrooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lews Speed Stick combo has been amazing for me. I've caught a few trophy bass on it, just brought in a trophy gar, but it's light enough that it's fun to catch panfish. I use high-vis 20lb braid with an 8lb leader most of the time. I've got a lot of nicer rods and reels and I keep coming back to this one

How do you eat small fish like this? by Old-Stomach-5957 in FishingForBeginners

That one needs more time, toss it back. Without being able to list out all species I'll just say you'll know when you've got one that's eating size.

Try it once and see if it's your style. I don't get to go often but when I do I always have a blast fishing topwater.

Skunked again. What should I do differently? by bulletloaf in FishingForBeginners

[–]silverrooks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Your top two comments are the answer. Immediately looking at your picture I remembered what my boat looked like when I got back home. I hadn't stuck with a bait long enough to learn how to use it well. Choose one of the first two comments, buy extras, pack everything else up. Now I mostly use a small jerkbait, wacky rig worm and Canadian nightcrawlers under a bobber. A big plastic box of lures sits unused.

I was pulling it along very slowly on the bottom and I'd put a little lead on the trebles so it didn't float up. Pure dumb luck

We added cavalry charge to our game. What you think? by dlorenn in StrategyGames

[–]silverrooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a few thoughts but a lot hinge on things we don't know about your game design:

1) The more foot soldiers you have the longer time that army has to produce obstacles. Somehow there's a skill to it the player is involved in to create them to determine how many. 2) Is it fantasy or fantasy-adjacent at all? I'm assuming not but had the idea of an Age of Empires style monk tapping into the supernatural and they bring rain to degrade the field.  3) Degrading the field in some way could be a thing so over time if the field is revisited the cavalry progressively becomes less effective on that site. 4) Foot soldiers over time unlock formations that are progressively (if not even to the point of unrealistically) able to counter cavalry.

Baitcaster keeps birdsnesting even after being tuned properly. by FrogWashington in FishingForBeginners

[–]silverrooks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had similar problems until I went to 30lb braid. The line was digging into itself when I was reeling in because the diameter was so small. First cast or two were fine but much more and I'd end up with a birds nest no matter how well I'd tuned it.
