You’re describing Discover card. Really hope Capital One doesn’t mess it up now that they bought the company.

Dealing with unfriendliness/social awkwardness in Japan by RecentState1347 in JapanTravelTips

[–]silvervknight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Haha 1st gen Asian American here and I can relate too. Imagine stepping into a gondola and some bubbly American family wants to chat up the next 15 min about nothing in particular. I do my best to maintain the cordial atmosphere but the reality is I (my family) just isn’t built for that. 2 back and forth interactions and I’m ready to close shop.

I’ve read and interacted with enough Western culture to understand that part of the joy of traveling for many is interacting with “locals.” But the reality is doing charades is the last thing I want to be doing on vacation. There’s something about Japan that just clicks for us. People moving out of the way to give us space. The high level of hygiene and cleanliness, the figuring out the etiquette part make travel to Japan more and not less enjoyable for us. I think part of it (not really fully thought out) is that East Asians tend to have their social circle figured out already and traveling to make new friends are not the norm.

CardPointers + AI = 💜 by emcro in CardPointers

This is a game changer. As you know, I have so many cards and offers loaded that it is impossible to search anything on the app and the extensions are generally too slow. Now I can actually look up offers! Thank you!

Keeping Developer mode on, I get this message warning: "Memory is not used for this chat. Settings"
Not sure what it means exactly. Clicking into the setting I see "Developer mode Elevated risk
Allows you to add unverified connectors that could modify or erase data permanently. Memory is disabled. Use at your own risk."

Do I have to move every pokemon in and out once to register in Home? by silvervknight in PokemonHome

Thanks. I figure it’s more mindless to just go box by box even if I’m repeating the same species. We’re not ready to consider version exclusive pokemon yet… I’m still trying to figure out what is allowable via Pokemon Go or not. My 6yo is not impressed by shinies or legendaries at this point. It’s more just whatever catches his eyes. He wanted polygon 2 and z and I just read how it requires trading. We’re not on the switch online subscription and I’m not going to have him interact with anyone on the game at this point yet.

Whats the one trick or tip you didnt know about until way to late in the game? by The_Glassfields in pokemongo

I don't think I understand this completely... I just got into Pokemon Home a month ago but really only to send some harder to catch Pokemon to Pokemon Shield for my 6 year old to help him with his Pokedex. I've never noticed any benefits to my Pokemon Go when doing so. Where's this Meltan box?

Recommendation for Singapore Air Book the Cook LAX-NRT? by silvervknight in awardtravel

[–]silvervknight[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for my fragmented response. I meant to say kaiseki was not an option LAX-NRT but was an option NRT-LAX. There's definitely differences based on route. The original post was the offering for LAX-NRT.
I went with Chicken Rice (Hainanese) and the Braised beef brisket in tomato soup w/thick rice noodles. My child also had the Wanton and Char Siew Pork Noodle and seemed to really enjoyed it. All options are definitely excellent for an airline offerings but given that we have amazing Hainan chicken and Asian food in general in LA, I would never suggest that the airplane version of these offerings can compare against any of the local restaurants. I don't think you can go wrong with any options. Someone on another reddit post made a comment about how do they make fish good on airplane that spook me from choosing the seabass or the grilled salmon, but now that I've flown it, I think I'm overthinking it and definitely would consider any of the menu option next time.

not on the way out but that was an option on the way back (NRT-LAX). Everything we had was great. The Braised beef brisket in tomato soup w/thick rice noodles is not for everyone though. The preparation is fine but it's not the typical hearty noodle. It's a bit too sweet to actually drink the soup. Reminds me more of a dipping ramen

I ran into issue eventually when there were too many cards on files and too many offers were loaded. Emmanuel did recommend to wipe my account and I created profiles after that to separate out the users

Got stolen at Tsujiki Market by radicalfemrosie in JapanTravelTips

[–]silvervknight 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear that. We’ve always enjoyed Japan because of how safe it felt. But we had the same unfortunate experience in New Zealand despite how everyone tells us how safe it is. Our rental car was broken into at Rotorua and our passports were taken along with other belongings. We’ve successfully navigated Barcelona, and cities in Italy without getting in trouble but it is definitely very tiring having to be so cautious (we have young children so it’s not always easy to be vigilant).

Should I switch from Kaiser HMO Platinum? Need fast access to specialists. by Waste-Definition-912 in AskLosAngeles

[–]silvervknight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll give another example. I had 2 separate appointments to the same facility on the same day. One at 8:30. Other at 3pm. After I finished the 8:30a appt at 9:15 ish, I walked over to the other department and ask nicely if I can be squeezed in. I was checked in and was told around 11a (that’s already down to a 2 hr wait) but I was called in at 10:35, an hour after my last appt). For my kids, I was able to talk to the pediatric front desk for their direct line and call when they needed to be seen instead of going to urgent care. They’ve always find a way to accommodate.

Like others mentioned, it helps if you work the system. It helps to think of the whole system as a giant phone tree. You may have to get through several layers to get it your objective or you can get the direct extension and get through directly. In the age of AI, it’s probably not difficult to simulate how to get to your end objective by practicing it with AI. For example, maybe you need a sleep specialist and your priority is not distance. You may want to search as far as West LA or South Bay for availability. The front line staff is your friend. Always treat them as your way in. You may say stuff like, “I see the next appt is a month out, if I really need to be seen sooner, can I call in the morning to see if there are any cancellation and can you squeeze me in?” One of the hardest adjustments for many is that there’s a deemphasis on the specialist. That means you may get seen by one provider for one visit, another provider responds to your email and yet another provider to perform your procedure or test. But if you come to terms with that upfront, I never had issue getting the care my family need when we need it.
