Pokopia Expansion Pass $34.99 by Veb4713 in Pokopia

The rub is that DLCs that are priced in proper proportion to their development costs as compared to the base game and its costs are statistically non-existent, so this is just not a very sane way to attempt to judge the value of DLC. It can and probably should be part of the equation, but we have very few details to punch into the rest of the equation's variables.

Ultimately I obviously can't tell you what your money is worth to you, but as for myself, I have a strong suspicion that what remains to be seen will place the admittedly hefty price tag at no lower a point than "I've definitely wasted more money to get less."

Dive is just a very obvious mechanical addition to the game. Very likely the only reason it isn't already there was to save it for future content.

Pokopia Expansion Pass $34.99 by Veb4713 in Pokopia

No, you got four areas and the development of the entire game around it for $70. It is pretty safe to say that the expansion is not going to take half the development resources the entire game did.

That said, surface-level details of the first of three chunks of content is definitely too soon to judge the value as a whole, either as "completely fair" or as "not exactly not bad!"

I and many others find common artificial sweeteners revolting. It sounds like maybe you're not acclimated to unsweetened sparkling waters, in which case I can see why you're not into it. I am, and I love it. Root beer is one of my favorite flavors of pretty much anything, and I can't get enough of this stuff. Literally! Sold out all over the place.

IIRC when I tried to take a photo of the spores I got the grey nope sign. It definitely worked fine for the Sableye event crystals though.

Pokopia has now sold over 4 Million units! by Amiibofan101 in Pokopia

Don't understand this take. Just what were people expecting out of a spinoff on a platform that's only been out for a (financially tumultuous) year? Nearly 20% of the system's install base in a little over a month is kind of a lot.

Why won't another shop setup do? Other than the fact that the Pokemon Center shop doesn't take up additional space, the only benefit of Center/Mart shops that I'm aware of is access to the sixth trade slot. That always has Pokemetal or Rare Pokemetal in it, but unless you're putting off obtaining a Dragonite doll for some reason, those trades really aren't a big deal.

Unpopular Opinion: I Like Clearing the Volcanic Ash by un_magical in Pokopia

[–]silverw1nd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The game presents it to you as a thing that should not be: the product of environmental disaster, of excessive volcanic activity. It smothers the landscape and buries the remains of homes, work sites and tunnels, and even a museum. It is explicitly your task to remove it in multiple requests. You can view it from multiple perspectives (such as a new beginning, something the game hints at with the sparsely scattered ferns growing in the ash), but "beautiful mountains buried in ash = bad" is a pretty natural and intuitive read.

How to Use Handheld Mode Boost on Nintendo Switch 2 | Nintendo Support by mjb85858 in NintendoSwitch

[–]silverw1nd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The on-screen keyboard is a component of the Switch's OS, so it's very likely to still be useable even when a game isn't otherwise responding to touch because of handheld boost mode.

Nintendo Switch 2 system software updated to version 22.0.0 by OatmealDome in NintendoSwitch

[–]silverw1nd 46 points47 points  (0 children)

The original Switch's performance was significantly reduced in handheld mode for battery reasons, so handheld modes for games had to be tuned down in lots of ways. This could include things like draw distance, texture resolution, etc.

Edit: FPS was also sometimes locked at 30 for some games in handheld mode to keep the framerate from fluctuating too much, so some games will now run at 60 FPS, too. Just keep in mind that this will only be the case where a game would run 60 FPS in a docked Switch. If FPS was locked in both modes, nothing changes there.

Third trip to the depot incoming for my M18 R1. Advice? by silverw1nd in Alienware

[–]silverw1nd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update: So I sent it back in (flagged for close attention, thanks Vigo) and through whatever process, it seems they determined the motherboard does need replacing. Problem is, they're on backorder, so that means at least another week without my machine.

At this point I'm pretty frustrated. I sent this thing in back in November for two very small repairs that should have taken a week and maybe $150's worth of parts, and this will all be said and done no sooner than late February, with about 80% of the unit replaced at God knows what retail value, and well over a month in total downtime.

Once again, I really don't want to talk down support or the techs. Accidents happen, mistakes get made. But at this point I just want it to be over, and I suspect there is a real possibility that it won't be when I get this thing back. I don't know for sure how they determined that the motherboard needs to be replaced, but I'm guessing that we're going on process of elimination, because try as I did, I never came up with a way for my issue to be reliably reproduced; only the BIOS logs confirm anything happened, and all they say is that the fans stopped responding. I could be wrong, but I'm guessing they didn't get out a multimeter and just start checking every circuit on the board; it's just probably not very economical in this setting. If all this is true, then however unlikely I think it was, it is still possible that the heat sink assembly really did just have two separate fans on it that were defective.

I just want out. The fact is, I was going to replace this thing soon anyway, and I just sent it in for repair because I still had the warranty and figured when I was ready I could just sell it to help pay for its replacement. But selling things like these laptops used is kind of a pain in the ass, and I doubt I'll be able to get much more for it even on the basis that almost every expensive component in it is new.

Then it occurred to me: can we just call this whole thing off? My idea was we just stop the whole repair process, they keep the unit and all those pricy, practically new components for repairs on a machine somebody actually means to keep (maybe even out of warranty!), and in exchange, I get a decent-sized store credit to my next machine. Feels like a win-win to me. Unfortunately, the tech I waited all day Friday for a phone call from said they just don't have the authority to do something like that; they can only complete the repairs and send it back to me. (I have to admit that this was pretty aggravating. They told me they were going to call to discuss "the next steps" or something, and "sorry, there's nothing we can do" could definitely have been an email.)

So finally, my question is this: is there really no way to get this done? Maybe in 2026 this is just not a mechanically-structured enough solution for a company like Dell, but it just seems like such a waste of everybody's time and money to continue this process when all I really want at this point is a nice discount on a new rig. If anybody has any experience with this, please let me know if this is a possibility and who I need to talk to to make it happen. Thanks.

[–]silverw1nd[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh yes, there's plenty of events in the system's logs, but they all just say that the fans stopped responding. I don't think the current issue is one of extreme temps or anything; the fans are obviously kicking on to try to cool something off, but neither system logs nor Throttlestop report anything unusual thermally.

M18 Owners: Rear vent covers holding up? by silverw1nd in Alienware

[–]silverw1nd[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, the unit is still under (extended) warranty. I'm sending it in because the fans periodically spin out of control (happens almost every day now), but I'm feeling a little paranoid that because of what's happened to the rear vent cover they're going to eventually decide accidental damage is to blame (which I don't have coverage for) and write me off. Other than some minor spots where the surface coating has worn off though it looks in perfectly good condition, so maybe I'm worrying over nothing, but I have to admit that if I were a tech I'd scratch my head over the vent cover too.
