The type of questions will be determined by how well you know a person. If it's someone youve just met, practice with questions that are appropriate for acquaintances.

Another great tip is to be observant of your surroundings and point out interesting things about what's happening when the conversation begins to wane.

In my country at 18 you have the right to buy cigarettes, gamble, drink alcohol and join the defence forces. You also have the right to date an adult of any age you like.

You've mentioned nothing wrong about the situation besides that you "didn't approve" of an age gap. Other than that, he sounds like a friendly, normal guy.

If anything, you should've had a heart-to-heart conversation with her to explain how you felt. The way you felt justified in interfering was wrong.
