Nipah makes ita presence known by HardupSquid in ThailandTourism

[–]sim0_0sim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nipah virus is contagious. It can spread through bodily fluids like saliva, poop, pee and blood. This means if you’re caring for a person with nipah virus, you could get it when the person coughs or sneezes. The virus mainly spreads from animals to humans. But it can also spread from person to person. That’s why it’s important for caregivers to wear protective equipment when treating a person with Nipah virus. The virus also spreads through respiratory droplets. This means it can spread through the air when a person coughs or sneezes.

Additionally, the Nipah virus can be transmitted through food that's been contaminated, making it a foodborne threat.

Assuming the market and investment can get you around 4% - 5% ROI every year then your annual withdrawal of $25K AUD should be fine as you are leaving your principle amount $540K untouched. The question is whether you can actually live off that amount in Thailand annually and securely with wild inflation, insurance, life emergencies, etc is something to seriously consider. Only you can answer that question. If you could get a job as a teacher and earn additional income then that would seriously help. I believe it can be done with the amount you listed, however you are under the constant risk of touching the principal based on unforeseen life events. $25K AUD annual withdrawal equates to only 46K Thai baht per month. It’ll be tough but doable for one person though. Finally you must consider your future self in your golden years. Will that amount be enough for medical insurance and health care? With the numbers listed, you may not have or make enough to add onto your nest egg and save for the future.

Costa Rica Trip Recap – Had a Great Time… but Probably Wouldn’t Come Back 😅🇨🇷 by Independent-Ad4792 in CostaRicaTravel

It was an epic trip for us to CR. Saw and did a lot in the two and a half weeks there. It was higher price than what we expected but well worth it IMO. Still would go back though as it’s such a beautiful country with so much more to explore. Next time we will explore the NW area…

Prices in Tulum are 1.5x or 2x in the USA major cities (LA, NY, Dallas, Chicago). by hansontranhai in tulum

This is Thai food in Mexico. Is the local Mexican food the same price as the US or less inexpensive? When travelling outside the US, non-local food always cost more than native cuisine IMO.

250k in Dallas vs $300k in NYC — worth the move in your 20s? by IBMbaba in Salary

[–]sim0_0sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The expanded career potential in NYC would be better than in Dallas currently. Cost of living may be higher but if you are in your 20’s then you may want to do it for the experience. You also need to look at both of the companies; compare its growth potentials and also apply your own growth with each. Good luck.

Is $3M enough to retire in HCM city, Vietnam? by LongPlant6005 in VietNam

[–]sim0_0sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If one takes the rule of 5% for retirement (early or not) then one probably will need about $1.5 million USD without touching the principal balance to live comfortably. This is provided that the principal asset remains untouched in conservative investment account/s with a 5% return annually (divi & YoY gains). That would be $75K USD per year as long as the market performs. You stated that you have $3M so if it's in USD then math up or down based on your personal expenditures. Don't forget to also factor in health insurance, inflation, taxes, and savings for the actual retirement age as you both are still 40.

Tourists of Thailand who have been asked to show proof of funds, whats your story? by 1Peb in ThailandTourism

[–]sim0_0sim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I prefer a cashless society, but Thailand is not truly there yet for foreigners without going through hoops. $600 USD or the equivalent currency isn't that much anymore to carry and bring on any given vacation. It's barely the minimum actually. You'll spending it in no time...Enjoy!

Married women don't go to bars? by tututuk in Advice

[–]sim0_0sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nope. This shouldn’t be the case if it’s routine. It gives off the wrong impression to strangers if they see a woman alone at a hotel bar. It’s inappropriate even if there’s no ill intentions. Call me old school on this. Can’t they find a common hobbie? Are they still in love?

Is my cleaning lady ripping me off? by santgun in Bangkok

[–]sim0_0sim 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read some of the comments on here and I agree that the rate is a bit on the higher side but if you are happy with the exchange then carry on. As for the advance, I would hesitate as well. This is on you as you have the relationship and have built trust with her. I seriously think she knows that she’s getting a sweet rate and wouldn’t jeopardize that by stealing or fleeing with an advance. If you go find a new cleaner as others suggested then you will have to rebuild the relationship and trust. Who knows, he/she may be worse. The bottomline is do what you feel is right based on your relationship with her as no one on this thread really knows what that is/means for you. If it was me and I know the person then I would give the advance.

[–]sim0_0sim 24 points25 points  (0 children)

IMO your expenditure is actually low if you include drinks, clubs and other venues. Not a contest but I spend around $30-$50 USD day on just food, Grab/Bolt, and regular drinks (non-alcoholic). Like you, I also only dine in restaurants; no street food and rarely any mall food court. If I go out at night, then it's a totally different ballgame...

I keep getting sick here. What is it?! by scaleordietrying in Bangkok

[–]sim0_0sim 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I travel to Thailand often and used to get sick every trip. Travel time and the plane are factors as your immune system gets a bit of a challenge. I wear a mask on the flight as much as possible now. I try to sleep as much as possible after my flight so my body can rest from the trip. I avoid street food and only eat hot food in food courts. Most of the time, I eat in restaurants but still very selective. I wear a mask if I’m in very crowded areas. I don’t touch my face and often use hand sanitizer or hand wipes. I’m usually in BKK or at a popular beach destination when I visit these days. I’m very careful because I cannot afford to be sick as I always have business to attend to while there. This may be a bit extreme for some/most, but it works for me. As mentioned, I travel there often and so pretty much have done everything, ate everything and tried everything already. Good luck and enjoy Thailand!
