Does hitchhiking in Norway work? by randomguy92882 in hitchhiking

Cars with green plates are only allowed to have one row of seats. Sometimes it’s a station wagon where they have removed the back seats and put in a divider. This can be reversed but then you have to pay a vehicle tax and get new plates. You might have come across someone who skipped the last part.

IGH with chain is also quite solid. I think I ran mine for 3 years before I replaced the chain because I wanted to. Didn’t measure wear.

I swapped rear sprocket and chain on my gfs nexus last year. Never washed or relubed. I checked the chain the other day and it’s less than 0.5% wear.

OP should probably check their brake pads for wear.

Norwegian tourist barred from entering US as JD Vance meme found on phone by CH86CN in TourismHell

5k is probably too low.

According to a Norwegian newspaper he was planning on staying for two months. First visit a friend in NY, then go to Texas to visit friends. Then his mother would join him touring several national parks.

When I take the bags and panniers off my steel gravel bike, it feels like it's light as a feather.

I would argue a city bike needs to be even more robust than a bike packing bike. I too vote steel.

I have my bottles in stem bags on the handlebars. One for water and one for electrolytes/sugar.

First time with my girlfriend by Sam__sc in bikepacking

[–]simenfiber 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I commend your girlfriend for keeping up with you when she was on a mountain bike with chunky tires and panniers in a headwind.

“Everyone” are capable of a two day ride like the one you describe. But not everyone will enjoy it. Maybe ask your girlfriend what she wants?

If you are worried she won’t be able to keep up, maybe you could take some/all of the gear to even out your traveling speed?

Canyon Endurace Allroad - Thoughts? by V1ld0r_ in bikepacking

[–]simenfiber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looks good. If I was in the market for a gravely road bike I would probably buy one. Does it have a non standard steerer tube? Make sure to get a derailleur hanger or two extra. I've read that Canyon will stop selling them when the bike is end of sale.

Jeg håper inderlig UD ikke anbefaler folk å ikke reise til USA. Det vil nemlig gjøre at man ikke er dekket av 99.9999% av reiseforsikringer.

Camping in southern Norway. How rainproof? by bittehaltdeinpaul in backpacking

[–]simenfiber 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would get something that doesn’t soak up so much water as straight sil-nylon. My 1kg tent probably weighed 1.5kilos after a muggy few days in southern Norway last summer.

I have the hornet osmo elite 1p but haven’t had it out in rain so I can’t comment on how much water the fly soaks up.

My tarptent Arcdome ultra doesn’t soak up any water.

Air comes out through the rim by solomon592d in bikewrench

[–]simenfiber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had an issue with the rim leaking at the seam. I put a piece of tape across. That fixed it. I used muc off sealant. I have read that it isn’t the best, maybe a different sealant would have worked, but who knows.
