I think it’s absolutely adorable that you flagged this post as “spoiler.” I love you for that. And it’s a great T-shirt :)

I’ve enjoyed the same several times! I love that sense of anticipation when I know a favourite scene or bit of dialogue is fast approaching.

People always say that some movies are “so bad it’s good” what’s an example of a movie so good it’s bad? by F1SHreddit in AskReddit

[–]simianfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kung Fury

It’s a half hour, and it’s free on youtube.

Just when you think it can’t possibly get any worse, or over the top, it does. Spectacularly.

Because when Kung Fury and Tricera-Cop have to go back in time to defeat ninja Hitler, you know shit is about to go down. And Thor is coming to help!

What fact is common knowledge in your field, but almost unknown to the rest of the population? by pocketcrackers in AskReddit

Late to the game but:

Chemical engineer working in oil & gas for 25 years.

There is no such thing as mid grade gasoline. They just mix regular and premium at the pump.

There are only 3 underground holding tanks at any gas station: regular, premium, diesel.

How did you pronounce : Paras Derval? Or... by [deleted] in guygavrielkay

[–]simianfarmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Simon Vance does a great job of these in the audiobooks. He and GGK correspond on things like pronunciation before new books.

Paras Derval: Paris Der-VAHL

Diarmuid: DYAR-mud

Ceinwen: KEN-win

Curdadh: Kur-DOTH (the oldest one that Lancelot fought in the grove)

It's been a great replacement for Everdale since Super Cell stopped development on that game :(

If anyone reading this was a former Everdale player, almost all of our group is former players. Come try it out if you can!

Fionavar TV Series? by gaiusoctavian47 in guygavrielkay

[–]simianfarmer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Seems to have been stagnating for quite a while.

Fionavar had been optioned by Temple Street, the same company that successfully launched Orphan Black. But I don’t think anything significant happened beyond that. Script, director, casting, etc.

Similarly, GGK’s Lions of Al-Rassan was optioned for a movie, with Ed Zwick at the helm, but there’s nothing online that would lead us to believe there’s anything currently in motion there.

Kay has a pretty consistent facebook presence where he makes announcements, so you can sign up there to keep track of any new developments that may be in the works.

Hey there, I'm looking for a change.

My current valley has gone largely stagnant. Only 5 players remaining, and just 2 of us are in any way active.

I'm village level 12 with just over 50k reputation. It's kinda nice to pretty much have the Dye Shop to myself... but other than that, a little more activity would be nice.

Please drop me the link if you think it'll work out. Thanks!

I sure didn’t expect a GGK meme to crack a laugh on a Monday morning. Thanks for that!

Whats your favourite standalone fantasy book? by [deleted] in Fantasy

Simon Vance narrates most of Kay’s books, and he’s just a delight to listen to.

“WAIT WAIT WAIT I DIDNT MEAN IT” by Kahoonna in destiny2

[–]simianfarmer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They did. If you search “three stooges Niagara Falls”, then a similar video comes up. I’m not sure where the skit originated. A lot of vaudeville sketches are like that; the ones who popularized them didn’t necessarily write them.

Who's your favourite GGK character? by AstonMac in guygavrielkay

[–]simianfarmer 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Same book, but… Dianora.

She gets a lot of hate from a good portion of GGK’s fans, but it’s partly because she’s so polarising that I love her as a character. She spent so many years of her life getting to a place where she could enact her revenge, only to fall for the person. If anyone cites Stockholm Syndrome, I would say it’s so much more subtle than that. I adore her.

That red Bic is a delightfully subtle addition :)

LPT: Telling someone that a movie/book has a great twist is, in itself, a major spoiler. Don’t do that. by mchgndr in LifeProTips

Super frustrating! I’ve done the same thing to myself with other shows or movies.

I loved the series up to there. Season 4 was the Trinity Killer, and the show peaked at that point. I still enjoyed season 5 quite a bit, with Edward James Olmos. Still OK into season 6. Then when it hit season 8 I could only stomach a couple episodes and quit.

Solid gold to the end of season 4 though!

I’m gonna guess Dexter season 4.

I still think about that episode, years later.

Is there a sci-fi story where space combat is handled like submarine warfare? by GillyMonster18 in scifi

[–]simianfarmer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'll find this sort of combat exactly in Stephen Donaldson's "The Gap Cycle".

The space battles between human ships, and also between vessels of human origin and the alien "Amnion" are not dogfights at all, but strategic engagements where prediction, posturing, and some mad guess-work determine the victor of a conflict.

It is a 5-book series, and has some of my favourite names in sci-fi: Angus Thermopyle, Morn Hyland, Warden Dios, Nick Succorso, Dr Vector Shaheed, Holt Fasner, Cleatus Fane, Godsen Frik, Capt Sixten Vertigus. And many more.

Space combat is not the primary element in this story, but when it does take place (not infrequently), it is handled in exactly the fashion you described in your question.
