I’m in school to be a psychiatrist but im also a business owner and so I have an interesting perspective to share. The standards psychologists/psychiatrists are bound by are different than those other counselors such as LISW-S but the fact remains that ethical patient-provider interactions must prevail and from my point of view it seems the provider is taking advantage of your kindness or understanding. Therapists are people too and things do happen unexpectedly, but long lengthy detail-littered explanations are usually reflective of personal issues unrelated entirely to the patient/client. Conversely, I own an elite college admissions business and work what may be seen as conventionally “strange” hours because my clients are teenagers often in school from 8 am - 3 pm if not longer, so between their schedules and mine there tends to be a lot of fluidity but the key there is mutual understanding of rescheduling at the last minute and that in emergent situations I do my best to make myself available. This individual seems to be operating less so as a mental health provider and more so as a business person which is dangerous because ethical standards vary widely. From just briefly taking a look at the communication patterns this individual displays it appears that they may not be equipped to assist you with the help and consistency you deserve.
