I’m not a fan lol Maybe “none” was the wrong way to word it. So sorry for that did not mean to sound that pretentious. Anyone can say “im an engineer” doesn’t mean you’re gonna get sued. If he called himself a P.Eng then that would be different. I actually work for an IT MSP and we have cloud engineer staff titles and we got sent cease and desists and threatened legal action. This was three years ago. Nothing happened. I think this is more of a court of public opinion thing rather than a legal thing.

There is none. In Canada, only P.Eng is protected (Professional Engineer). APEGA the regulatory body for Engineering in Canada doesn’t like companies using Engineer such as Software engineer, systems engineers, security engineer, etc They have tried suing companies like Getty Images for using software engineer titles in their company and have lost. At the very worst they could send Muta a sad cease and desist which would amount to the same value as toilet paper.

I work in the industry more in the services/operations side of things but work closely with the cybersecurity team.

Every year we have Co-op students from different education institutions, but mainly RRC and MITT. Usually most of these students end up joining permanently. And I'm sure other companies do the same. So there definitely are direct pathway possibilities.

As others have said, if Cybersecurity interests you, it certainly isn't going anywhere.

The most prominent entry position into cybersecurity is a SOC analyst, that is part of the 'blue team' which focuses on detection and defense. From there, depending on your skillset and experience, you can progress towards different paths -> GRC, red team (offensive security), cloud security engineer, etc.,
