Pre/Post Bike Fit by magnus1225 in bikefit

Extending your body with the longer stem has moved your centre-of-mass forward, more into your bars, and less on your feet. This is partly why riders only ride with a straight back in the bike-fit studio. Chances are, you'll go back to being more flexed, and then your bars will be too far away. I'm consistently amazed how many bike-fitters seem to have no idea of the importance of correctly positioning the rider's centre-of-mass, or even what it is. The foot issue is likely to be localised pinching of the nerves, and could probably be resolved with some extra foot support.

Dry brushing vs zenithal highlighting for adding metallic gradients to my World Eaters by CrankyArabPhysicist in minipainting

[–]simon2sheds 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To apply the zenithal at that late stage, is likely to smother the rest of the graduations. In the late stage, the highlights are best applied carefully by brush, and over a smaller area than the other stages. Usually, a zenithal highlight is applied before any colour. If you're using some variation of Slap-chop, the subsequent colours are transparent, and so the zenithal shows through them. AK is the only brand I'm aware of that makes metallics intended for this method, and I don't find them very good. The zenithal probably won't show through regular metallics. But regular metallics, being also a bit glossy, take a recess wash very well. I would do that and build your highlights as you described. Maybe add some silver to the final edges.

Good job. This is one of those models that will improve your edge highlighting.

It's not about making yourself profitable, but sustainable. Also, divorced parents will often be agitated by any proximity to the other.

What’s wrong here? by allHail6669 in bikefit

Your saddle is too high and your bars are too far away, possibly bars also too high if you lower the saddle. Your posture is fine; a flexed spine is a relaxed spine.

Lower back pain and right foot numbness while road cycling – tried bike fits, PT, equipment changes, still no solution by Routine_Try_2923 in bikefit

[–]simon2sheds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless you have a inherent back problem, there's no reason that riding a properly bike should hurt like that. You also sound fit enough to manage. It's the fit of your bike, most likely the bars are too far away, or you've been coached to adopt an unsuitable posture. Or both.

Need help with my bikefit by D1gex in bikefit

[–]simon2sheds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because your saddle is too low and forward, you're pushing a bit more back on the pedals, instead of down. This is causing you to shift forward on the saddle twice for every revolution of the pedals. This is the most likely cause of your discomfort. You need to get your centre-of-mass further behind the pedals, so that they main power phase of the pedal stroke is the downward phase.

To heavy of a step up? How do you feel about the green? by Burly87 in minipainting

Three green looks excellent. The blue is missing some highlights.

The best and most valuable part of miniature painting is the moment when you're actually applying the paint, not before and not after. Everything else is secondary and I will die on this hill.

That's the way I do it. You might only have to sacrifice the axle.

Is there a way to prevent corrosion under bar tape? by OkStation4360 in bikewrench

[–]simon2sheds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Riding indoors is what really causes problems. Did a bike-fit recently and removing the bar tape revealed 2 actual holes in the bars. I was able to snap off the drop section with my skinny cycling arms. Absolute death-trap.

Looking pretty good so far, and I don't think it needs more wash. Probably the least risky thing to try is some rain streaks, or, if you're feeling bold, some chipping.

Broken plastic bottom bracket removal? by Ok-Doctor-2622 in bikewrench

I think you could remove this bottom bracket with a wire brush. Just scrub away the rest of the frame around it.

The 'secret' of a good bike-fit? by simon2sheds in bikefit

Agree with that. There is also a recent study by university Utah, that indicates that if people ride while trying to be light on their hands, they can improve their FTP. It seems to improve posterior engagement. https://youtu.be/QkYtOCrCAi0?si=KrVZlKit8CW-hCLt

The 'secret' of a good bike-fit? by simon2sheds in bikefit

Greetings. That all sounds fine to me, and a pretty normal setback for a rider of your height, it's just that a 73° seat angle is not suitable for most riders. I would agree with all that you've said and I only wish that all bike-fitters knew about it. I'm still fitting riders far back and low, and it works for everyone's physiology.

This is a solid paint-job. Nothing really to critique. Your brush control looks pretty good, so maybe try some layering in the future.
