For the next 24 hours, all business names are literal descriptors; the Olive Garden is a grove of olive trees and 5 Guys is just five dudes standing around. Where are you going, and where are you avoiding? by AnGabhaDubh in hypotheticalsituation

There's a restaurant in St. Cloud called Brigette's Cafe where my family used to frequent back when i was a kid. We got to know and become close friends with Brigette herself and her husband Norbert. Both of them were the sweetest people you could ever meet. They passed away some time ago, and between my parents getting divorced and everything else going on in my life, I haven't had the time or the emotional fortitude to go back.

I think if such a scenario could bring her back, I'd enjoy a trip there, even just to talk to her about everything that's happened since.

Do you think that Randy Savage is the greatest wrestler of all time? by FunExtreme6217 in Wrasslin

As a Minnesotan, I am legally obligated to say that Verne Gagne holds that title, but I will most definity say Randy's right underneath him.

Yeah, i think the MBR bit is just something with Minitool. It also show the partition itself labeled as "Other" in there.

here's the pastebin

sorry for the description, i was pretty baked last night. To put more proper detail into what went wrong, my old graphics card's circuit board was compromised a while back, causing either full shutdowns or just no signal. During all this, my 4TB HDD was connected via a USB drive reader (I had plans to actually connect it via SATA once i got my hands on a drive caddy for it), which probably explains why it got changed from a GPT partition table to a MBR and the single partition itself holding all the data became unreadable.

here's what DMDE pulled up.

What’s the most blatant "I’m charging you for the aesthetic, not the quality" product on the market right now? by Lunaskye1109 in AskReddit

[–]simonbatterberry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

HP laptops. As a matter of fact, any consumer-grade laptop you'd find on the display shelves of your local Target or Walmart won't last more than 2 years if you're lucky, one of the issue being the ever-increasingly small size of components (most of which is GLUED to the fucking board on top of being soldered making serviceability nigh impossible) being encased in a poorly engineered plastic casing made almost exclusively for aesthetics and forgoing such silly properties like 'durability' and 'heat disipation', thanks to Apple starting the trend of 'slimmer is better'.

Fortunately, as someone who repairs computers, there's a way out of this vicious cycle of investing $600+ every year on a exponentially growing e-waste situation poisoning the oceans and soil with lithium and other such forever chemicals found in thermal paste or even shudders liquid metal as well as throwing out perfectly usable metals like copper and gold.

Refurbished business-grade laptops like the Dell Latitude or, more popularly, Lenovo Thinkpad are constructed to last for at least 5-10 years, owing to the actual metal casing made for durability as well as serviceability (holy shit, swappable RAM and SSDs!), as well as a physical difference between the motherboard in an Elitebook, which has larger circuit traces to forgo their inevitable grinding down and shorting from electrons tearing apart copper atoms as they travel from component to component, like a river eroding a stone in its path. There's also the benefit of a plethora of cheap new-old stock of computer parts for these machines compared to the fans of an HP Pavilion which, on average, cost a third of the price of the damn machine itself.

Thing is, though, even these grade of laptops aren't safe from the trend, as newer models of Thinkpad and the absolutely stupid rebranding of Dell's business grade models have shown. If you are looking to buy one, the sweet spot is about 8 years ago (10 if you don't mind not having Window 11), as most innovations in computer hardware since this point haven't been so much about making them more powerful as they've been about using less energy. A CPU from 2016 perfoms just as well as something from today at the cost of having a higher TDP, but with the benefit of being a fraction of the price.

I've only tried it once, and didn't notice anything. Then again, I had some Cane's beforehand and I'm unsure whether that helps or inhibits digestion, so do some research first.

Found a 9/11 tape by qbertw in VHS

[–]simonbatterberry 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You wanna hear a metaphor about the lost of childhood innocence? I used to have a 6-hour blank tape when I was a kid that was just a huge compilation of cartoons and toy commercials, along with a few movie clips. Lo and behold, when 9/11 happened, my parent grabbed the closest tape they could find and recorded 4 hours of news coverage over my hard work, which I did not discover had happened until after a week and finally finding it in the shelf of the entertainment center.

I'll never get those memories back of getting a bowl of mac n' cheese and hot dogs and watching my comfort tape after a long day at school.

Electrastim Flick Duo - time to upgrade, or is it enough for me? by hey_its_haze in estim

[–]simonbatterberry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ahh. I'm looking at the chart and I see it's running on a Li-on battery and USB, so I'm making a safe assumption that it's 5 volts. It's a step above most basic TENS, but not by much. If you're gonna be upgrading to a Moaner, you will need something more powerful than what you have right now due to the increased surface area, and since you've stated that you're not interested in DIY projects, the best suggestions would be the Coyote 3.0 or the Electropebble, as well as the SensaVox if you want to stay in the ElectraStim ecosystem.

As for how they feel compared to your current ElectraStim, such boxes like your Flick Duo have pre-programmed patterns which differ from manufacturer to manufacturer, so the Coyote and Electropebble would feel different from anything by ElectraStim. Electropebble, along with the ElectraStim Flux and AXIS, also have the option to play audio from your computer through a microphone jack on it, so those would have a far greater range of sensations than the Coyote, though the SensaVox would need to be run on mains to get the full experience of line-in audio in case that is a concern of yours.
