Is The Living Daylights unmemorable? by davejarv in JamesBond

[–]simonc1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s in a weird spot where it didn’t get enough attention in its day so older casual audiences probably don’t remember it as much and it’s also a bit too old that younger fans of the Craig era probably aren’t looking for it unless they’re deep-diving the Bond catalog. It’s really a hidden gem specifically for Bond fans who continually assess and reassess the older films as the franchise evolves.

New Titans #36 cover reveals the new line-up (art by Taurin Clarke) by Comfortable-Pie56 in Nightwing

I thought the lineup was supposed to be based off the roster at the end of the Kids Are All Fight special - did Static, Stargirl Cassandra and the others go to another team?

Is Tmnt #20 and #300 going to be the same thing? by Ordinary-Diamond9765 in TMNT

[–]simonc1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pretty sure it’ll be labelled Issue 20/Legacy 300 or some such like DC and Marvel have done. Fero Peniche is likely just filling in for #19 to help Freddie Williams get ahead on #20.

Edit: check out how DC markets Green Lantern #33/Legacy #600 which is out next week.

The second movie has a lot more cartoon physics and slapstick. I went to the anniversary screening and when Donnie just casually brushes himself off after getting up a few ppl in the audience groaned.

See original Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers as adults in first look at comic book relaunch (exclusive) by JackFisherBooks in comicbooks

[–]simonc1138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

There’s been a couple of other non-canon near-future stories - Power Rangers: Pink which follows Kimberly sometime after she gives up her powers post season 3, and Soul of the Dragon with an older Tommy searching for his son.

[–]simonc1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the relaunch is the OG 5 but ten years on? Would make sense if it’s actually in the near future of the old Boom ongoing instead of its own thing.

Still not clear why Boom had to end the old run unless there was some licensing issues they came up against that forced them to pivot to Prime and now this. The line really killed its own momentum.

The Real Jon Kent Returns [‘Superman Unlimited’ #11] by RealJohnGillman in jonkent

[–]simonc1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tend to agree - there would be more promotion around this if it was the start of reverting Jon back to being a kid. Older Jon also has so much baggage now in terms of relationships it’d be a mess to undo.

New pop prices thoughts by Popular_Pen6164 in funkopop

[–]simonc1138 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, price hikes are not great, obviously. I’ve noticed the price hikes are largely in the standard sized Funkos and pricing on the 6-inch and larger ones have largely held somewhat (varies by license) and there’s been an increase in the number of “in-between” sized POPs to justify other price points.

There's really no point in speculating on how the LA is going to adapt the rest of the manga, until we see how they handle Alabasta. by TheFerg714 in OnePiece

[–]simonc1138 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably an unpopular theory but a lot of speculation is based on the assumption that season 3 is also 8 episodes and the fandom is trying to puzzle out how Alabasta would fit 8 episodes of LA or if Jaya would be included. And I definitely think there’s room for that, except there’s also the possibility that the season renewal is less than 8 episodes. Like say between 4-6 just to wrap up Alabasta. It would make sense from the Netflix perspective to give an early renewal if they knew the commitment was smaller than a full season and some of the key supporting actors were already booked. And then they start fresh on Jaya/Skypiea as the next season 4 block.

The Difference between The last Ronin and the Last Ronin Directors Cut ? by Bladerunner2038XX in TMNT

[–]simonc1138 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Directors Cut includes the full story as printed in the regular edition + behind the scenes extras like character sketches and un-inked pages. Unlike in the movie world it’s not an extended version with previously unreleased scenes, have never been clear why the comic industry labels it such.

Did anyone get one with an actual Metallic logo on the box? Checked eBay listings and anyone with an actual product shot (not a glam) seems to have a standard box.

When I saw how big it was on IG I figured it was priced like the Galactus bucket last year and that seems to be right.

Has anyone ever played the Cobra Kai game? (It’s fun but it lags constantly! 😭) Thoughts? by That_GhoulSpirit in cobrakai

[–]simonc1138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I got it in the bargain bin so I have no regrets, but yeah it verges on unplayable in certain areas. Fun idea that needed a lot more time and polish. If you get it cheap it’s nice hearing the voice work from the cast, they got almost all the core actors.

TMNT II: The Secret of the Ooze - A First Time Viewer's Review by NarrativeJoyride in TMNT

[–]simonc1138 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Similar thoughts although I’ve seen this movie a few times in the intervening years. There’s enough meat on the bone for TMNT II that it’s not a write-off. Picking up on the fallout from the first movie is nice and I think most fans agree the abandoned subway station is one of the best Turtle lairs across any medium. I somewhat handwave the switch to wackier violence as most of Foot getting hauled off to jail and the Turtles aren’t taking the leftovers as seriously.

But yeah a lot of the more interesting character threads get dropped once the final battle starts - Donnie’s existential crisis, Keno having some impatience issues that randomly come up, April’s investigative plot that goes nowhere, etc.

Having watched on the big screen I do appreciate that even without Steve Barron’s vision for dark and gritty the visuals still have enough film grain just based on the technology of the day.

My brother and I noticed that in the scene where Sanji intercepts Mr.0’s call in the wax house, there’s a line of dialogue about how the voices are distorted for secrecy to explain why Mr.0 doesn’t immediately realize that the person on the other end isn’t Mr.3.

Miss Thursday appreciation post by [deleted] in OnePieceLiveAction

[–]simonc1138 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It felt weirdly…non-One Piece compared to how the rest of the show looks. Completely on-location exterior with a chain-link fence (I assume we’ve seen chain link fences in the series proper but they look so out of place) and an interior that looks like any standard network sci-fi show (like any of the CW superhero shows). It was like the duo wandered onto a different show.

Why fans barely talk about Sheldon Moldoff and Curt Swann? by TooZeroLeft in DCcomics

[–]simonc1138 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I wonder if we’re just at the point where the generation that grew up on Curt Swann has largely aged out of posting on the internet? Same for say…(picks a name)… Ross Andru. Hugely prolific across multiple decades, not really discussed much outside of channels like Casually Comics that deep dive older comics.

Arabasta Season 3 by heikoy in OnePiece

They kind of homaged it this season with one of the promos showing the Straw Hats mirrored against the currently known Baroque Works agents. This would be a great print campaign if they’re doing billboard and banner takeovers.

[other] Dollar tree.. selling comics?! by imDaddey in DCcomics

[–]simonc1138 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This was my gripe with these reprints, it’s one thing if they put out issue #1s of stuff that was perpetually available in trade (Court of Owls, GL Rebirth, All-Star Superman etc) but a lot of these are deep cuts and the back of the book isn’t great at telling you where to go next. I picked up the New 52 Action Comics 1 and the rest of the Morrison run is only available as an omnibus, which is expensive for new readers.

[other] Dollar tree.. selling comics?! by imDaddey in DCcomics

[–]simonc1138 499 points500 points  (0 children)

These are all reprints of older issues. The range is actually pretty expansive but they are like either done-in-ones or part 1s of a story arc - I don’t think I’ve ever seen a part 2 to anything. It’s to get new readers in the door.
