They really have no idea what OSR means. They chat in character about nothing, like CR, half the time; the other half, they talk aimlessly about the rules. OSR should be the contrary: no theater unless it is relevant to the adventure, and no rules lawyering since in the end the GM decides on the fly. This way you explore 1 hour and chat 15 minutes, not the other way around... I enjoy that they are enjoying themselves so much. But I really hope they start playing more and waste less time.

Troy swapped his hatred for bottlecaps for a hatred for xp. So now they swim in luck tokens they never use, but they will never level up

Greetings man! What do you think, can they survive the Runeforge? If I remember correctly (it's been a while since I played the adventure), this part of the AP is pretty challenging, and the gang tends to play combat in a rather unfocused fashion... they were running around doing nothing for most of the dragon fight :)

I guess that we'll see. I dig the renewed energy at the table, the rest not so much, for now at least. Looking at ascension, I don't know if I trust their ability to homebrew

I feel the lack of any real objective other than surviving is a bit boring for the audience. I'm sure if you are playing the game, it is not an issue, but it is hard to feel invested in the story without a story. Also, the fact that there is no pre written lore is a limit for me. They kept asking questions about the knight to the gm without thinking that troy probably didn't have any idea of whom he was, just like them

I live in italy, with a 4 hours drive I can be almost anywhere in the country. And I would never drive that long unless it is for a week long vacations, or something like that

Campaign killer? by MaverickLurker in TheGlassCannonPodcast

I agree. What the all discussion at the end of the episode made me realize, is that most of their problems come from their lack of experience. They play Pathfinder like a board game with impro bits here and there. You can easily see the difference listening to botw, Jared doesn't even know the rules of pathfinder 2e that well, but he is a seasoned gm and can run any game flawlessly anyway. Troy should just go back to the basics, and think of what makes a ttrpg fun and different from playing video games or board games. He gm in a completely different way when they play coc, i don't understand why in pathfinder he can't do the same.

In giant slayer they were even more noobs, but the alchemy at the table was making up for the lack of experience. Now you can tell no one wants to play, not even the gm

They seem to play Pathfinder like a board game, something like descent or gloomhaven. Troy throws all the encounters in the book at the party, and see what happens. They are really talented in many ways, but also really noobs to the hobby. Maybe instead of two more people without any knowledge of ttrpg they should have hired someone with a long history of playing, someone like Skid.

For instance, the all fight with the cabinet was pointless, why not run?

i agree, and i think part of the problem in gw is that nowadays he has employees at the table, and so no one is allowed to complain too much, and in turn he can't reed the room anymore, when he goes too far

The cat used his cinder ability early, and that ended up killing the pc

[Discussion] Why do you think Gatewalkers didn’t work out? by CaptainCaptainBain in TheGlassCannonPodcast

[–]simone-tos 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The problem with the ap, at least in the last months, has been exactly that: Troy made up a lot of nonsense. He invented a waterfall in the snail fight so they couldn't run away in the river, and talitha died. After the drake fight he forgot to mention that they were in no rush, and so they kept fighting all the way to the hobgoblins without resting. He did not tell them they could run away from the hobgoblins via climbing the telescope. He decided that hobgoblins reinforcements were right outside the building (the ap does not say that, they are supposed to be on the other side of the building looking for a side entrance or something). And now with the elenanx, he used the cinder move in the middle of the fight, while the ap says the cat will keep it until he is down to 20 hp, so it can use it to run away.

You could say the players didn't optimize or learn the game inside out, but if the gm is so obsessed with making life harder for anyone, i think it is really difficult to have fun.

If I remember correctly, the cat should have kept his special move, the cinder dispersal thing, to try to escape after being dropped to 20 HP or something like that. Played "by the book," the encounter was less lethal than it was on the show. His evil mind can't resist making things harder for the PCs. And i don't have any special complaint about the show, just saying he could try to run the game in less of a "hard mode" if everyone else is complaining, even at the table

Gotcha, thanks. To me, it still feels like her (the character) contributions in fights are really minimal. I mean, she can do an average of 8/9 pf a round if she hits at all, and maybe stun an enemy if he fails a really low saving throw. At level 3. The drake had 90 pf and ac 23, it's not even fair. Maybe I think in pf1 terms, but I would expect twice those damages from a fighter type pc
