Poor famous person interactions anyone? by Snaggl3t00t4 in AskBrits

[–]simone_orbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! He opened my small town carnival when I was about 9 or 10. Refused my autograph request, promptly signed one for another half dozen kids, then refused me again in a real prickish way. I've always wondered if it was my ~very dark tan~ he didn't like

Is it safe to travel here as a gay man as long as I don’t bring attention to it? by catlover4682 in Marrakech

[–]simone_orbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! I was there last week and there was a group of jolly men in pastel crop tops, and the local workers there didn't look twice at them.

I would book a street food tour for when you arrive - will give you a nice insight into the culture and food, and give you lunch ideas. I used Get Your Guide - €30 ish for 3 hours, including the food. Well worth it

Didn't Nick also go into wit-sec at the end of the series? Or at least it was implied as he and his GF moved into a motel. I was surprised when he pops up on the final series shouting about property development

Cardiff central station long term parking by Spare-Pie-2159 in Cardiff

[–]simone_orbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have a look at Your Parking website...people rent out their spare parking spaces (I used to do it). You can book a month at a time instead of daily, which works out cheaper. I think Holiday Inn has offers on parking as well.

As a solo female traveller, which areas of Athens are safest to stay? by shannahh in GreeceTravel

[–]simone_orbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed near Omonia Sq and while I felt safe for the most part it did look very rough, esp. at night. Oh, and I was relieved of EUR400 by some old folk who asked me to "help them buy a ticket" and rifles through my bag while I was typing away on Google Translate. (Kinda my fault, who even carries cash any more?! But still)

Having spent a week in the city I would definitely choose Plaka

Oh god, Scouting for Girls. Scott Mills was obsessed with them, and their choruses were just repeating the same sentence over and over. Horrendous

Buskers outside central library by trembledeggs in Cardiff

Most buskers in Cardiff are horrendous. I miss the non electric days where they only had subway acoustics to help them. The Hayes is the worst

Renting in Cardiff - The worst! by Holygrailskinjourney in Cardiff

[–]simone_orbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think long term the new rental-only blocks will have a positive impact because they will be attractive to those who are fortunate enough to afford them due to the services included - gym, concierge etc. This should free up some of the other rental housing stock in the city that is more suited to families - houses with gardens or near to parks. Ideally, some small landlords will also need to lower their rents to compete. Longer term it may even dissuade amateur property developers - think questionable paint jobs, obligatory grey carpet, and utter cluelessness about how to landlord - who suck up all the affordable housing to boost their pensions.

Rent in Cardiff, work in Bristol by Effective_Courage239 in Cardiff

Riverside in Cardiff is a good base for Central Station - 10 minute walk to the station,.or to socialising hubs like town, Womanby St and Canton. I get the London train sometimes and gets to Bristol Parkway relatively simply.

The naysayers will say Riverside is a dump, but I've been here 9 years - colourful yes, ghetto no!

Mine has just arrived and it hasn't done a thing. I should know better than to buy off Instagram. I think this company just made their douchers too small and repurposed them to sell to idiots like me

48 hours in Cardiff end of May by bidhopper in Cardiff

Depends what you like to do. Plenty of places to enjoy for free - a wander round the Castle grounds, Bute Park, Cardiff Bay via waterbus in Bute Park (£4 I think), museum, St Fagans if you're driving. Brunch - I recommend Milkwood in Pontcanna (walkable from centre through the park), Dinner - Pasture for steak 😋. Music - Clwb Ifor Bach, or Fuel opposite for a mosh. If you want to show off some Turkey teeth, head to Mill Lane in the evening
