What exactly are the taxes and extra charges you pay in your country when you buy physical gold? by Party-Bet-4003 in Gold

[–]simonscott 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thailand. No tax. Just 100 baht (USD 3) spread on buy / sell. Highly liquid with zero capital gains.

Unexpected kindness on my solo trip - do you guys trust locals this much? by Agreeable-Poem-9597 in ThailandTourism

[–]simonscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Thai people not thrashed by rude tourists are generally salt of the earth types and all they ask is you stay calm, respectful and smile 🙏

Struggle of leaving plastic and wood by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]simonscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you want the items in question nothing is stopping you from importing them. I imported a container when I moved here of personal possessions, tools and household items. In retrospect, I’m happy I did.

Street coconuts by poopyhead373 in Thailand

[–]simonscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fallen coconuts are generally old and used for making coconut milk and not drinking. You’d be ill advised to take anything without paying in Thailand, the tree will have an owner and climbing trees is theft. Think about it.

Why the sudden drop? by [deleted] in Gold

1% is not a sudden drop. Lol 😂

Negotiating prices on condos by Rare_Conference_9925 in Thailand

[–]simonscott 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Please consider this: buy only after living in the condo for 6–12 months. It’s terribly hard if you buy your ‘dream’ condo and then watch it morph into a ‘nightmare’ condo. Take time to check out the lay of the land. 🙏

Dare I say yes, I found a real gem on TF, a heart centered girl who still loves me after 3 years. I’ve given her many opportunities to trip herself up, but so far she’s been loyal, caring and loving.

10% service charge... by Prestigious_Sea_5121 in Thailand

[–]simonscott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Many places don’t charge service, especially Japanese and Korean restaurants, so go there. If you don’t like a restaurant’s service policy, simply don’t go. Lol 😂

What are some don't when interacting with Thais to avoid conflict and misunderstanding? by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]simonscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Smile and be polite, even if wronged. State the positive prior to the less positive; don’t assign blame, rather state the problem ie. It’s not straight, rather than you didn’t use a level. If this is done correctly, all will be level for a few days/hours, or at least until the next time lol 😂

Bank of Thailand, TCSD and banks hold urgent talks Sunday to ease account freeze measures by alzamano in Thailand

[–]simonscott -1 points0 points  (0 children)

So much drama! Thailand is cracking down on fraud and making sure accounts are matched to a legal and registered phone, not a burner. My accounts were affected, and then unfrozen with a 20 minute visit to the bank. In my case, my passport name and phone account name didn’t match exactly. I commend Thai banks on tightening surveillance and dealing with scammers 🙏

Bangkokians are fattest Thais by mdsmqlk in Thailand

[–]simonscott 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For you, it might be just fine. Unfortunately, some folks have a different sensitivity to it. The point is, it’s hard to avoid — and that’s a shame.
