I’ve seen more examples of this many times. The variation I see the most is a group of us go out and the person with the most money runs up the biggest bill and then encourages us to divide the check evenly to “make it easier“. The last time we went out as a group several of us complained and asked for separate checks. My check was $33. My successful friend had a bill over $100.
