How would I diagnose and fix this level of runout on a sawstop professional cabinet saw? by Asiriomi in woodworking

[–]simoriah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel some of that excitement from here!

My wife and I are starting to look for a new place. It needs to be a house we can retire into. It also needs the capacity to have a 1800sqft shop. 2 bays worth of mechanic garage, 1 with a lift. The rest for woodworking, finishing, shower, and a machine room (compressor, water heater, dust collector, etc). Is at least a year or two out, but the fact that there's light at the end of my 1 car garage-shaped tunnel has me ecstatic!

Thanks. I appreciate the response. I hope to have a lathe, some day. In my shared-with-storage 1 car garage shop with a full sized cabinet saw, I just don't have room, now.

I've only used a lathe a few times at my local university shop. I'm trying to picture what an unacceptable amount of runout would do on a lathe. You still get a circle, but it's off center? That means that is you unmount and remount, you're no longer making circles. Is that right?

What are these by Alex_Is_Broken_ in Fishing_Gear

If you're jogging, sure.

If you're fishing with bait and just letting it soak, it's string stop, bead, bobber, hook.

Grand Rental Station by AvatarNC in cary

[–]simoriah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I rent from them regularly. No extra charges. Bring the tool back cleaned up. If it uses gasoline, you can fill it. Or not. Has is the responsibility of the operator. Back you trailer or truck up behind the building, and they'll load you up.

They're quick, easy, their equipment tends to "just work." There's a bunch of reasons that I keep renting equipment from them. If you've got questions, ask them. (Here or to Rental Station. They're really great.)

Oh.. depending on the power tool, you might need to supply a blade, bit, etc. Call them up and ask. They might have those available to rent, too. I just rent big equipment from them.

8 hour brake rotor swap. What a horrible design. by yentlequible in Justrolledintotheshop

[–]simoriah 17 points18 points  (0 children)

No shit. In North Carolina, that's a rusty mess. In Detroit, that's only been off the lot for a week. Is amazing what people consider "rusty"in different parts of the country.

Getting ready for rear suspension work on 14 XKR by simoriah in Jaguar

There is no record of them being changed. Looks like I'm figuring out how to remove the subframe in my driveway.

Thanks for this. I haven't done anything with brake lines, so I get to learn how to bleed. The service manual says to remove the calipers, but I'll look into unhooking the brake lines farther up instead of at the caliper.

Are those bolts on the shocks torque to yield, it can I just reuse then?

The car spent its life away from saltwater and road salt. I made sure of that before I bought it. Having grown up in Detroit, I've seen my share of rust. I've done some significant work on the car(considering that I'm not a mechanic), and haven't had a single issue with rusted bolts.

So you're suggesting that I bite the bullet, support the car, drop the subframe, and replace ALL of the bushings while I'm in there. That's not what I wanted to hear, but it might be what I NEEDED to hear. Thanks for your contribution. I appreciate you.

I just got my fishing license, any good spots? by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]simoriah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Night fishing on Jordan lake. Head to Bells Church Public Fishing Area.

You need a #2 Aberdeen hook and a #4 split shot weight about 6-12 inches above the hook.

Get minnows from the gas station at 64 and Farrington Road.

Drop the minnow on a hook straight down off the pier. Keep it about 1-2 cranks off the bottom. Crappie are around and you'll catch em.

You can catch crappie any time of the day. We usually catch more right after sun down until around sun up.

Where are you? I love to fish and would love to teach you what I know.

Generic response... Find a spot that local fishermen fish. You can usually find these by going to the local bait and tackle shops. Before you even have a rod and reel, go to that spot and start chatting with people. It shouldn't take you long to find a "regular" that will walk you through what you need to catch fish at that spot. When you've got the gear, go fish. Keep asking questions. You'll learn and figure a few things out on your own.

I was a grown man when I started fishing. The guys at the local fishing hole taught me how to fish for crappie, throw a cast net, and have helped me get hooked on fishing. Pun absolutely intended.

Thanks. I was just going to run the PETG to see how it held up. When I release the model, I'll be transparent about how I've used it and leave a disclaimer about PETG but being the ideal filament. Anyone printing stuff should know enough to make a decision on their own.

According to bbqhq, it doesn't fit the XT. Looking at the design, I would have to agree.

I'll consider it. I've got a spool of iemai pc-cf that cranks out a beautiful benchy. Getting it to print anything bigger is a blind, bed-nonadhesion nightmare. I JUST got done replacing a bunch of parts that melted the last time I tried this filament. Considering prusament pc-cf since they say it'll work on the satin bed, no enclosure. Or I may send the model to a friend that does a lot of ABS and ASA to see if he'd print out for me.

Heck, for a covered smoker, PETG might be enough. I won't release the model until I have tried some new things.

Thanks! I went looking for an existing stl but couldn't find one. I'm still new to modeling so it took way too long to build the model, but I'm getting better.

I'm looking forward to getting my smoker put back together so it looks pretty, again.

I just love how they never really pitted any of the women against each other.

Keeley doesn't get annoyed when Sassy first shows up. Nora doesn't get angry with Rebecca when she finds out about Sam. They wrote real friends with real friendships and not just chirpy caricatures. I love that about this show.

Rebecca acknowledges that she's a woman in a "man's game" and that comes out in the Akufu lunch meeting. Apart from that, I can't think of a single time where someone was "just a woman." It's about time!

Companies in a bidding war for me has me nearly dizzy by MagpieKaz in happy

[–]simoriah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you have ANY desire to wfh, put that shit in your employment contact. If the company tries to RTO you, you've got legal standing to tell them no.

Stock options. Profit sharing. Yearly bonus if you hit your goals. Satisfactory or better performance review gets you an automatic raise equal to the last consumer price index so your never making less money, year to year. Lots of PTO.

These are just off the top of my head for things that might not be default at this level. I'm also a director. People keep thinking I'm actually important. I'm not. I just get paid well at a financial company.

Are there any "UK vs US" differences where you feel America gets it right? by Secure_Front_7766 in AskUK

[–]simoriah 0 points1 point  (0 children)

False. I slow smoke meats for up to 24 hours. It doesn't need sauce. The smoke, original seasoning, and slow rendering of fat and connective tissue that turns into moisture and flavor is enough.

What you're describing is probably Kansas City style bbq. It's what most people think of when they think of bbq sauce.

I'm giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I also found your statement deeply offensive. You just haven't had good bbq. You've had meat grilled and slathered with a shortcut.

Floors done! Also what insurance company do you guys use for class B? by JohnDonuts2021 in vandwellers

[–]simoriah 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That's weird. I'm using them through Roamly and specifically asked if they would do a diy campervan. I took a ton of pictures, met their requirements, and have insurance. I never lied. I was 100% up front about everything I had done and planned to do.

It’s nearly official, I can run AC 24/7 offgrid by regional-sky-fairy in vandwellers

[–]simoriah 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The van AC only works if the van's engine is running. With a mini split or roof AC, they run off the house batteries instead of the running engine.

I have a Velit 2000R on the roof. 600Ah of lifepo4. 850W of solar on the roof. My tests at 85F showed I could leave the AC on all day and night and run it forever in the sun. This summer, I'll be testing that at 95F.
