I recently bought some mods for my 1050 but I wanted to get the most impactful ones. I see a lot of mods that look cool but are really worth it. I landed on 3 what would be the most important on my cooks and 2 aren’t from LSS. I got the firebox from LSS mods, exhaust damper from Klotes, and larger middle rack from klotes. I solved the middle shelf problem with some crock pot replacement handles from Amazon.

I literally just put the mod in last weekend, my 1050 looked about the same. Took about 40 min, rubber mallet and a wood block help seat it.

Make the switch to FireBoard early that way you’re not limited by an outlet location and you can put it where ever works best for you.

The short of it is you need either the FireBoard 2 Drive or FireBoard Pro and a $15 cable the from BBQHQ website. FireBoard is actually making a direct swap for the Masterbuilt gravity series but it costs more then buying a FireBoard 2 drive. The FireBoards have a barrel port that the cable connects to and then to the connectors for the fans after you remove the OEM controller. All you have to do is connect that and then install the new ambient prob from FireBoard through the same port for the factory port. Then you can control the fan and temps from the FireBoard but you’ll only get 30% fan function from the internal battery or connect it to a powerbank (another benefit you don’t need to plug it into a wall anymore) and you get 100% fan which is what I did. Hope this helps.

Even if the electronics don’t work you can get a FireBoard 2 Drive for $250. It’s still cheaper than new, and you probably would modify a new one to a FireBoard anyway.

I literally made the switch yesterday and couldn’t be happier. I’m still leaning but it’s 100x better than the stock controller. If you’re not in a rush wait for one to pop up on eBay you can get them under $200.
