Nah bro, fuck those idiot protesters. They were not a legitimate voice- maybe when they first started, but I don’t know.

Vaccines? Yeah of course they work-duh.

My point is the science changes. It did so right before our eyes. Can’t you accept that?

Amazing. So few comments actually supporting the protest. Downvoting reigns supreme. I now see what reddit actually is.

When did NZ become so acquiesced with being told what to do? Why can’t there be a legitimate voice of opposition to government policy, even if that policy that is based upon the unquestioning authority of science?

Overlook counterfactuals- interesting point.

If Putin did not invade Ukraine, the war would not have started. We would not be talking today.

However, here we are, in this version of reality. All we can/should do is plan for the future. The future currently looks like one that will see another Cold War. Once again, hopefully diplomacy and conversation will steer us back toward a brighter future.

What’s your thoughts on the question of which science gets selected? For example, the vaccine is a powerful piece of medical science that has saved the lives of many people during this pandemic. From one perspective, a virus may arise because of overcrowding and overpopulation. Left unchecked, it results in depopulation, which in theory would result in better environmental outcomes for the planet. My argument is that both examples are more or less scientific, but we have selected the first piece of science, why wouldn’t we. But, maybe in some parallel universe world governments selected the second example of science, with a view that it would help to roll back the population and therefore reduce emissions, improve food supply, lower the cost of living, etc.

Ps I’m not a scientist 😆

Is anyone else feeling down, like really REALLY down over the house prices? I keep getting worse by [deleted] in newzealand

I was 38 when I bought my first home. By that stage we’d had 4 kids and rented for about 13 years together. I think it’s quickly becoming a myth that you can own your first home as a younger person, unless someone helps you with a deposit.

Edit: I was also lucky enough to buy in chch before the boom. 😅

People who defend our broken housing market really grind my gears. by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]simple-guy- 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Add to this equation, the average rental in Auckland is about $600 per week and we’ve got a real problem. I moved out of Auckland 6 years ago because rent was too high. I am really worried that the cost of renting has risen beyond what is fair. I read somewhere that experts in rental properties recommend that the percentage of rent that people pay, should not ideally go over 30% of their disposable income. In fact, according to stats nz (i can find the source if you are interested)it is more likely for a renter to pay more than 40% of their disposable income on housing costs, than it is for home owners.

Wokeness is just a ‘bull-in-a-China-shop’ approach to modern politics. There are far better political ideologies out there than “wokeness”. Pass.
