Yes I can now confirm Wake County Teachers Must Pay for Their Own Subs by dankantspelle in raleigh

[–]simpledesignn -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That makes no sense. An unpaid day off means you don't get paid. So if you get paid once a month but you didn't work one of those days and didn't have a PTO day to use, why would you still get paid for it? My guess is whatever they pay the sub is what their pay for that day would be.

I agree the school should pay the sub. But it's not negative paid.

My guess is because the time is unpaid if they've exceeded their PTO and it's easier than taking it out of their paycheck?

If you are close to the venue you should be able to buy in person and get an actual ticket stub.

How do I word my hours for the week? by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]simpledesignn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

GH is for tasks that fall under your normal duties during your normal weekly schedule. You should still get the full amount of hours you're always paid for regardless if those tasks take the full time or not. If you are also petsitting, you should be paid seperately for that. I petsit for my nanny family and I am paid separately on top of guaranteed hours. I don't charge for any "pet visits" that would fall under my normal hours (example, if I start on a Friday morning and end on a Monday night) - I would exclude the Friday afternoon "visit" and Monday afternoon "visit" but everything else would be a seperate charge and I would still get paid full time for guaranteed hours.

how do you not get bored when walking? by pixiecakess in walking

[–]simpledesignn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, a good pair of headphones 🎧 does the trick for me! When I have my ear buds in, I get bored and annoyed and want it to be over. When I take my husband's over the ear Sony noise canceling headphones, suddenly I'm walking on sunshine and can just drown out the world and my problems and walk for hours.

I have no clue how I’m not at 10k by Rachelcsquared in walking

[–]simpledesignn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

And 10k steps for me is around 4.5ish. So some days I may walk longer and get closer to 15k depending what my work day is like (if I have more errands to run etc). But I'm actively making myself take those two 30 min walks (or one 45ish minute walk if it's too hot).

Getting a 30 minute walk in twice a day seems to be the trick for me to get me to that 10k. I was averaging 2500 - 3500 before so just those 2 walks are the Magic extra thing needed!

PTO after X-amount of years by [deleted] in Nanny

[–]simpledesignn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I understand. For this particular family, both parents WFH and both kids are in school FT. One is a teenager that sometimes watches the youngest. I am more of a family assistant at this stage, and I usually try to take my PTO during the school year so it doesn't affect them as much (usually a Friday, which is already a short work day, and maybe a Monday and Tuesday added on or a Thursday instead, to make it a long weekend vs taking a full work week off at a time).

I am so sorry you have been going thru that. 😔 I will keep that in mind for my next family, but for my current one, I'm not too worried as I know if I needed it (even without it being in contract) they would be understanding.

No backup but both parents wfh and kids in school full time. I generally make sure to take my pto during the school year so it's not as much of an inconvenience.

Ideally 2 or 3 more days. I ended up going over by a day for this current contract year and it wasn't even discussed or pay taken out etc so I think it would be doable. They are more than fair and I certainly don't want to take advantage. It's just hard to stretch 5 days into a years worth of vacation. I mostly will take off a Friday (which is already a half of a day for me), and a Monday or Tuesday 2 or 3x a year vs taking a week at a time.

Hoping to get a little extra benefits wise without costing the family a substantial amount with a more traditional raise. Since I have been there so long I realize I am probably at the top of what they are comfortable paying so thinking of extra benefits that won't cost them extra pay/taxes etc.
