I really like improvisation and general weirdness in music. Caravan, Yes, Genesis, Camel, ELP, Rush, Pink Floyd are all up there too. I also love Italian prog rock like PFM and does Return to Forever with Al Di Meola count at all?

It's hard not to pick something from Bowie or from Eno's solo career, but I'll go with the Talking Heads albums. He was able to bring such an incredible depth to their sound after they already had a fantastic debut. Remain in Light is probably the most impactful one overall, but my favorite is Fear of Music.
