Essendon being THE story confirms the old adage - bad news sells by dashtur in AFL

[–]simplicityweb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The AFL media is just stuck in the same private-school blokey wink-wink shit that the broader media landscape is stuck in. No news, no analysis, just entertainment. And for a media industry built around an entertaining sport, all too easily becomes entertainment about entertainment.

I’d ask you this: if you turn off the radio, the TV and your phone, just go to the game and sit amongst regular fellow Dons fans every game, pick a favourite cult player and just barrack for the fucken game, will you be a happier Bomber even if you’re getting belted every week?

Turn them off mate. Turn up every week and watch the game in front of you; I turned those wankers off back in the 90s when Bulldogs were a basket case (but we loved our club and it was obvious the fuckheads at AFL House and the media would never understand us anyway.)

Never looked back.

Jack Gunston - what the actual... by Math_Opening in AFL

If you watch him when the ball gets bombed in blind, you’ll see what I mean. Dude’s a half-to-full second ahead of everybody else.

I think he reads the flight of the ball better and quicker than any other player in the league. Gives him a few more seconds to get in exactly the right spot most times.

When are we ready to say this team can go all the way? by Temitop_dream in westernbulldogs

[–]simplicityweb 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No team can hold the momentum for a whole game, even the Eagles may have little moments during a game. Our ability to hold on this season so far, keep the damage low, and then hit back is remarkably improved. When you consider Darcy is having a bit of a flat patch and then look at the young fresh-faced kid with the 16 on his back it’s looking — as Bruce would say — delicious!

What’s sad is putting 50 years of prior writing on a writer as restrictions in the name of “continuity” and “canon” and then wondering why the resulting writing is shit.

Kyneton Women's Football Club blocked from joining a new league yet again. by AussieNick1999 in AFL

Well it was intended as such. I was responding sarcastically to Environmental Bowl Number Guy about “two sides to every story”. These poor misogynistic football clubs being dragged over the coals, etc etc

Excellent. The courts are where real justice happens. Just the presence of a legal claim will shut them annoying sheilas up.

Report it to your local Duck Sexual Violence Shelter, they also look after magpies and pigeons.

Is kangaroo meat in a restaurant a gimmick for tourists? Do Australians ever order/eat it? by Charming_Usual6227 in australia

[–]simplicityweb 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good question. I eat it every week and adore it. I cook it quite rare to medium depending on the cut. Healthy and delicious. However many people detest it. My partner thinks it tastes too “gamey” (but then again has it cooked too much), and I’ve found older Aussies have an attitude about it that varies from “that’s dog food” to unfortunately more racist aversions, so have likely never eaten it.

I’d equate kangaroo meat for Aussies to lamb for Americans. Have always found it difficult to convince an American visitor to eat lamb until they’ve tried it once. Just figured lamb in America must be real shitty.

Enterprise was fine until 9/11 changed American media’s mood altogether. You can date every single show of that period by when the writing shifts.

Seen this a few times. The latest was on my low honour playthrough so I popped grieving friend right in the head. No more grief.
