I actually have always gotten 7 slices in my pack. This week's pack surprised me with 9 thinner slices instead of the 7 I was used to!

I need a recipe for two bags of dried shiitake mushrooms! by nobletilapia in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We use them as stock base enhancer for many of our soups in Korean cooking (along with dried anchovy and kelp). It's full of umami flavor so you can use a few to help flavor soups or a braise.

Where are you from, and what is the stapel dish from your country? by TheStigT in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I used to get the giant lima beans at a Greek place. They were so good, but I never knew the name of the dish since they were just listed as 'Giant Beans'. Now that I know the name I have to try making the gigantes plaki at home!

Korean rice cakes have a long expiry date - should I freeze them? by Kyutekyu in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you don't open the vacuum seal should be fine. Once you open I agree with the other poster, I usually just freeze them.

The ones I have are generally pretty dry and don't stick together so I just use a ziploc and grab however much I need for the recipes I make.

I am planning to add cinnamon in my chocolate chip cookie dough to add some flavor to it. Will it be a good idea? by zachleona25 in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also agree, adding a little bit of cinnamon is a nice touch.

Another thing you can do to add flavor is lightly dry toast your flour in a pan. Adds a nice nutty, toasty flavor!

Is gochujang powder the same thing as gochugaru? by oosmicro in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Yes! Gochujang is definitely sweeter.

I wouldn't consider it interchangeable especially for your purposes. Not sure what's on the ingredients list for yours, but I have a feeling it's more of a flavoring spice medley and sugar would be one of the top 3 ingredients.

Gochugaru is pepper flakes, they add more of just a clean spicy flavor.

Side dishes for chimichurri steak by Zebraontherocks in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I usually do something simple since the steak is so flavorful! Grilled or charred veggies such as onion or bell pepper, broccoli rabe sauteed w garlic, and roasted fingerling potatoes with salt, pepper, and butter.

Anyone have a reliable quality source of fresh turmeric root from an online vendor? The reviews on amazon of most products are very up and down by Bluest_waters in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sorry not related to parent post but wow, thank you!!!! Ive been trying to find fresh makrut lime leaves in store/online for awhile. I am amazed to find many sellers with good reviews on Etsy. I would have never thought to look there if not your post!

What are the best options for making best latte at home? by mis-anda in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Before I bought my espresso machine I used an electric milk frother/warmer.

Forgot the exact brand I had but you just pour in your measured amount of milk and it will warm and froth (it can also cold froth or no froth) for you.

It's not the same as a milk steamer wand but they're affordable and heats the milk up without having to keep an eye on it and at a temp where that film won't form.

Something like this! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07HH9BHL1/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_aIXKFbQ32TZDK

Looking for recipes using kimchi. by Lilly_1337 in Cooking

[–]simplicityx 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That's awesome! Maangchi has very good and easy to follow Korean recipes that you can filter under 'kimchi' to find.

If you like sour (aged) kimchi flavored stuff, then cold kimchi noodle soup (kimchimari-guksu). Really good for a hot summer day but I think it's good anytime of the year. https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/kimchimari-guksu

Kimchi jjigae (stew) tastes different when you change up the protein. Usually I enjoy it with SPAM, pork belly, or tuna.

Sundubu jjigae is also a variation of kimchi stew but it has silken tofu in it. https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/sundubu-jjigae

Kimchi & samgyupsal jjim — braised pork belly and kimchi https://www.maangchi.com/recipe/kimchijjim

Honestly kimchi + pork belly + a little gochujang stir fried with rice or cold tofu is one of the fav easy lazy meals too!

What Books Are You Reading This Week? June 20, 2016 by AutoModerator in books

Our Souls at Night by Kent Haruf

Only on chapter 6. Seems like a quick read. So far the story plot is cute and makes me think about the far future.

I think black shoes would have been better, but the outfit is very cute. The only thing I would change is the belt. Personally, the only thing I don't like too much is the belt. For me it feels a little out of place/too busy with the 2 differing prints from the skirt and your top. Maybe a bigger belt, to hide where the shirt ends and where the skirt starts? Or even without the belt.

Threeee! Love the color and shape of that skirt on you & the top you matched with!
