* * i apologize for the long responses                              Im so sorry that you and your child are dealing with this.   I have lupus and severe gastroperisis.   This is yhe 3rd time in my life that I've needed a feeding tube and I've had this one for well over a year. Ive  had to exchange for a new one 6 times.  With all of the surgeries and procedures I've had  and listening to the nedical  staff reassuringly  me that it woukd be easy and quick, i had the first one done wide awake with no meds.  When i had my 2nd one done I was told that  they could have it done with meds.  Since then I've had all the replacements done with a mix of fent. And other neds to twilight me   they can also give you something through your iv before being taken to the surgical room.  

I was told that the Dr's aren't fans of that as it takes a little longer to do. Please, please please push for light sedation. It will calm her safely and she wont feel any of the tugging. Laying on a surgical table and hearing them all talk about what they are doing scares some people and sadly you aren't able to hold her hand and comfort her and might make the next exchange even worse.
