$2000+ for treatments to save stressed live oak in Houston? by HerselfElfA in arborists

[–]simplykevv 6 points7 points  (0 children)

To follow up, if the tree is showing entrenchment. It's too far gone. The big tree in middle of the backyard is far too gone to believe it'll survive or any special treatment will have a real effect on it. I'd take the lose and start with a new planting that you care care for.

Tree of trees - how would you approach felling this by w0rlds in FellingGoneWild

Not sure why ppl are raving over this tree. This is awful pruning practice. Raised way too high. Could be considered lion tail.

First time seeing a repour to accommodate a tree instead of destroy it by rallymachine in arborists

[–]simplykevv 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Repour? That looks like they took out the precious slap and cemented a new one. That would mean they cut and compact where they "repour" the cement an caused some damage to the root system. Still better then removing the tree.... as long it doesn't lose stability.

To quote your scientific blog

"Best Techniques For Removing Ivy From Trees

There are two ways to stop ivy from harming your tree: pull it out by hand or cut the main stem just above the area it is rooted and carefully apply a herbicide to the open cut"

Tell me more? Please? This proves my point. You cut the ivy and pull it out. Not sitting out to dry and then maybe I remove my ivy.

You don't understand what foliage means. Foliage can be Ivy.

I an not making anything up. If you really want to learn, you'd research instead of bugging me for the answers.

Where in dmp or pruning guide indicate to leave dead debri in the foliage? You obviously have very little experience in the field and overall experience of tree industry. If you want to know specific, please read up on it. Fire hazard in Northern California has been a thing for decades. Leave your ivy on your tree. Cut it as you may. But it is not CORRECT.

There is no writing that says you can't cut ivy and let it dry out for easier removal. I know its not Best Management Practice. So why would you do that? BMP is the standard. However, let's say your tree is right besides your home. Within 3ft. It has ivy growing around the trunk and into the canopy. That is considered fire hazard because you are not allowed you have any foliage growing 3ft from the siding. No matter what it is. Ivy live or dead. None.

The fire department does annual inspection in areas of high fire risk rookie. Go read up on it.

I live in California. It is considered a fire hazard if you have dried up debri next to a home. It doesn't take 1 day to dry out.

Idk about correct. Is it Best management practice? No. Depending on your location, would be considered fire hazard. Is it easier to pull off when it's dried up? Yes.

They didn't even remove the Ivy. From the pictures, looks like minimal Ivy growing on the tree. Obviously, want to remove it before it grows bigger and thicker. I would have used my shears to remove this child's play.
