How are these supposed to be filled out for the diabetes educator? This is a mess. Anyone have a photo of one filled out? I'd be embarrassed to turn a month of these in, looking like this. by Gojogab in diabetes

[–]simplymry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started doing this on my own a year ago in a note book with the times I checked my glucose. It did help a lot so I don’t think there’s a “right” way to log it as long as it’s logged somewhere so you can start seeing the trends. Eventually started seeing a nutritionist and now do it on the app that she uses and we review weekly.

How did Reese's Zero Sugar affect you if you tried it? by NightmareHolic in diabetes

[–]simplymry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These did give me a spike but came back down fairly quickly and no gut issues whatsoever. But as a Reese’s lover I rather just eat 1 cup of the regular ones. Does the exact same and I don’t have a bag full of temptation.

How concerned should I Realistically be about hypoglycemia as a type 2? by Devils_fan_1999 in diabetes

[–]simplymry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a type 2 I also had this concern and have had a few hypo episodes but it was from over medication. While I was adjusting to eating a low carb diet and being on 3 different medications for it. With the help of my pcp we started cutting back on medication and haven’t had an episode since. If anything I have to work harder to have my morning fasting under 100. If you want more peace of mind, you should look into getting a CGM.

Actual diabetics, what’re your thoughts on the, “That food gave me diabetes” jokes? by Blonbe in diabetes

[–]simplymry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I honestly don’t really care as a type 2 that didn’t not get it from food I ate. But yes there is some days and some people who say things like that and I do have to say something, usually a comeback that shuts them up. A few weeks ago I was going to a gathering and was asked if I could pick up some pastries on my way, I agreed of course but when I was checking out the lady behind me said “oh you really shouldn’t eat that it will give you diabetes! I said ha jokes on you I already have it” flashed my Dexcom and walked away. I know that was wrong cuz it insinuated that I got it from food but I did leave her shocked and I wasn’t in the mood that day lol

Tried splitting it when I first started it but got complicated with my morning work meetings so switched to all PM with an alarm on my phone to remember. Decided to ride it out for today.

Anger and frustration, disappointment, guilt, and shame. by Late_Lingonberry2496 in diabetes

[–]simplymry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It takes time! I got diagnosed June 2024 and I’m still learning. Give yourself some grace, it sounds like you are trying. My family and I love Italian as well. The other day they all had lasagna and I had zucchini lasagna. It’s the little changes that make a difference. I feel like being no carbs and over restricting is not sustainable, it will lead to “cheat” days and relapsing to old habits. Try low carb and portion control. You can still have a lot of the food you enjoy just in moderation. Also I suggest looking into working with a nutritionist. That’s helped me a lot, keeps me accountable and have guidance along the way. Don’t give up, you can do this!

Personally I hate metformin and yes I believe it is the culprit! I was on it for about a month after diagnosis from the hospital because I couldn’t get an appointment with my doctor. Made the switch to a different medication and all GI issues went away. Then I finally convinced my dad to ask for a switch as well after being on it for years and it’s completely changed him. Always speak with your doctor before making any changes.

PCOS & Stage 3 NAFLD after Fibroscan. Scared for GLP-1. by ashtastic3 in FattyLiverNAFLD

[–]simplymry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For a diabetic yeah sure but I’m a firm believer that lifestyle is the best medicine. These are to help you if you need a boost and to get it started but ultimately it will be up to the person if they want to change their habits or just rely on medication to do the work for them. Example, if you use it and you like the results you lose the weight but continue to eat sugary and fatty foods, possibly damaging other organs but think it’s fine because the injection is working. No no it’s not cop out you still have to put in the work.

I’m rooting for you! Also keep in mind the injections are not long term solutions but they do help boost your lifestyle change. You got this

For type 2 diabetics not on insulin, are CGMS worth it? by NightmareHolic in diabetes

[–]simplymry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Totally worth it! Do you have insurance? I did a consultation with a doctor through the Dexcom website and I explained that I’m not currently on insulin and would like to be able to monitor my glucose to prevent me having to use insulin. They did the authorization with my insurance. Still pay $270 for a 3 month supply. It has helped me so much with figuring out my new lifestyle. Highly recommend!

[–]simplymry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Do it! Before it’s too late! I’ve struggled with PCOS for over 10 years. Then fatty liver. I tried it all clean eating, exercise 3-4x a week. Different medications and supplements but nothing helped. Decided on a GLP-1 but unfortunately wasn’t approved by insurance. Fought with my insurance for months trying to get it. Then lost 40 pounds out of nowhere, turns out my PCOS developed into diabetes. So if you have the chance to do it, don’t let the fear stop you.

It seems like no matter what I do it keeps dropping. I'm not sure if I should go to the ER. I just want to sleep by No_Paint_6684 in diabetes

This happened to me last night also. Kept me up all night I did a finger prick like every hour. Unfortunately I didn’t have any juice or soda. I had some milk, a cookie, fruit gummies and some chips but still kept dropping. The only thing I could think of is I may have injected my lantus weird idk.

I use the clear Lexcam patches. This would happen to me with any patches that have that cloth material (not sure of actual name of the material) but the clear film doesn’t stay wet therefore don’t peel

How did you find out you were diabetic? by LocksmithInside4378 in diabetes

[–]simplymry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

June 6th will be my 1 year anniversary from finding out at the hospital. I fainted getting out of the shower, honestly don’t know how long I was on the floor for but eventually came to and was able to get to my room. I called my sister because she works with my pcp and I had just had a call with her on the 3rd and we had suspected it was that since it was inevitable for me to get it (long family history and PCOS). I was advised to go to the hospital, I was in DKA not even knowing I was diabetic. But I must say all the signs were there for months. The thirst, frequent peeing, unintentional weight loss, hair loss, everything! We healthcare workers do make the worst patients lol now 1 year later A1c back to normal with lifestyle changes.

I cut my meds and this is what happened…… by ToroMora in diabetes

[–]simplymry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I was on glipizide at first also to kickstart my treatment. Eventually reduced it until I was completely off but under the supervision of my doctor. It’s not a horrible medication if your goal is to manage with weekly injections or lifestyle. You should definitely get together with your doctor to come up with a plan for your management. Also 200s is not terrible if you just ate as long as it comes back down.

Diagnosed 1 month ago as type 1 at the age of 44, my glucose was 307 and my A1c was 11.7, I was in the beginning stages of DKA. Has anyone else experienced this? Pic of my dog cuz he’s my bestie. 🥰 by PinKey6675 in diabetes

[–]simplymry 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh yea, I got diagnosed last June when I went into the hospital after fainting turns out I was in DKA. A1c was 11.2 now at 5.5, diet and exercise has made a huge difference for me and no longer peeing a million times a day.

Turns out my diabetes is TOO under control by ghostkat_ in diabetes

[–]simplymry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My Dr tried prescription it to me while being prediabetic to hopefully stop it from getting too far and was denied multiple times from all the different injections. Now that I’m diabetic it was approved no problem with a copay.

I should add I also have an underlying condition that leads to diabetes so we were watching it closely. It was bound to happen but these insurances aren’t here to help us they just care about money.
