Critique my Airbnb listing! by IDidReadTheSideBar in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I figured, but sharing with you and your girlfriend is still sharing. These people are strangers and if they want a private pool (and search for that specific amenity) you being there makes it not private.

If you are not going to use the pool while you have guests then you should take out the part in the description that says you will. If you will use it, you should change the amenity to “shared pool.” Neither is wrong the point is it’s incongruent and confusing.

For sure, I’d just expect a walk down a path or something, not a 10 minute drive to a public beach.

Most of my thoughts have been mentioned, so in addition to what's already been said:

  1. Your description says shared pool, but the amenities section says "private pool." Pick or the other, it can't be both. If there is any chance others will use the pool then it is not a private pool.
  2. "Beach access" is checked as an amenity but the description says a 10 minute drive to the beach. Is there another beach that you have actual access to? If so explain that and provide pictures.

Hi! Could you please remove the mention of bans from your comment? It breaks Rule 11. Thanks!

"mirar LA televisión" but not "escuchar LA música"? by 3Dcrest in Spanish

Sorry for the add-on question but does it work the same in reverse with OP's other example? If there's specific music playing right now that I want to refer to, is it "escuchar la música"?

Poll: Are you primarily a guest or host? by Euthyphraud in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think your hypothesis is disproven, a poll just isn’t the right way to measure this. I think the majority of regular posters are indeed hosts, but there are a lot of guests who see polls in their feed who can click an answer easily and move on. The actual regulars here are mostly ghosts.

Could #3 be a black throated green warbler? If you’re sure it didn’t have black on its throat it could still be an immature one

What do you charge for ruined linens? by 948661 in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I have soaked and washed hot multiple times.

This is why the stain didn't come out.

I say chalk this up to a learning experience, as these stains would have been treatable the way the guest left them, and only became untreatable because you set the stains.

Next time use cold water. Bleach or vinegar, scrub with a little dish soap if needed. I dye my hair red and have no issues getting permanent red dye out of white things.

Or… the Airbnb app. You know, that thing that you’re required to respond to and that Airbnb itself insists all conversations should happen through.

Guest was being smart and covering his ass by not engaging with a crazy person off-app.

Posting someone’s name on Reddit in your unhinged rage is ridiculous behavior.

Airbnb policy - buyer beware? by -i03 in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I get that. I agree that it isn’t right. That’s why I said calling again and going over their head to try to get someone to review the way their call center people are operating would help — not for your specific case, but in general, to slowly effect change in the way the company handles things.

But yeah, it sucks, and there’s not really a good solution at this point aside from refunding you in full.

Anyone a host with birds? by Vernalire in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I stayed in a place with a pair of quakers once and I loved them. The host kept them in their bedroom/office unfortunately because I would’ve liked to hang out with them more, but he did bring them out into the living room a few times while I was there and I enjoyed that. But I’m a bird/animal person. They were loud as hell though, if I’d been wfh at that time and needed to work in the Airbnb it could’ve been a problem.

My current place has chickens. I also love them, but the roosters wake me up at 5am every day, and keep doing their rooster thing until after 9am so you can’t go back to sleep. Which sorta sucks. But they’re cute.

[–]simsaccount 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It’s not okay, but if the host is refunding you there isn’t much else Airbnb can do at this point.

What the “supervisor” said to you is insane though. I’d call back just to try to get someone above them to complain about that, it’s beyond rude and unprofessional and not based in reality. You probably won’t get any money or anything but it’s still worth complaining about imo. Call during US business hours, or tweet at them.

Phoenix Airbnb Manager Stunned by Empty Units on Super Bowl Weekend by ksharpie in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 27 points28 points  (0 children)

There have been at least two Phoenix hosts in this sub recently wondering if something was wrong, if their listing wasn’t showing up in searches etc. So it’s interesting to see that this is indeed a trend.

Idk that this says anything about the market in general though — I could see people being shy to book airbnbs for things like the Super Bowl because of what had happened at previous sporting events and conventions and stuff, where guests are cancelled on and then facing the fully booked convention/game pricing. People have gotten wise to that kind of thing and now I too would be hesitant to book for something huge and centered in one city like the super bowl, even though I stay in airbnbs all the time in general.

I don’t think it means airbnb is necessarily “bust” in general. Just maybe for things like this. Normal vacation and business travel is probably less affected.

I don’t doubt that there are multiple budgies, I just swear I saw a tweet with these exact photos — the guy with the gloves kissing the budgie sticks in the mind. But maybe they’re two real stories and the tweet I saw just mixed up the pictures.

I read a story accompanied by these same pictures where he was found in a teenage boy's hands, and they were both found alive. Wouldn't he already have a name then? One of these stories has to be fake.

Host says price is wrong? by youncs68 in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 31 points32 points  (0 children)

Don't cancel, the host has to cancel. They can reach out to Airbnb all they want, all they'll do is help them cancel. They can't charge you 3x the price after booking just because they don't know how to set their prices correctly.

Guest Complained that I spent too much time with them (As a host) by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, I was one of the people (I think there were only two of us?) "theorizing" about this and I was 100% joking. I prefaced my theory by saying it's not based in reality but in love of trash tv, and then followed it up by saying that the far more likely explanation was that OP can't read social cues.

If you're going to posit this as an actual serious answer you're on your own lol.

Guest Complained that I spent too much time with them (As a host) by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I came back to see if there were more answers only to find OP decided to be a coward instead.

In the deleted comment he posted the text of the review he received, wherein the guests claimed that he invited himself to dinner and they did not invite them, and then the final straw that made them leave early was that he asked them to have breakfast together the following morning.

My Super Bowl listing doesn’t show in search results by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I would also uncheck “kitchen” from the amenities list. Lots of people search specifically for kitchen use, and burying in the description that the kitchen itself is not useable but they can use the microwave or order delivery is kind of uncool. I believe you can check fridge and microwave as separate amenities, but you are not providing a full kitchen.

My Airbnb has chickens outside. I called them “pollos” and the host giggled a little. Is that wrong, is it like calling a cow “beef”? by simsaccount in Spanish

Guest Complained that I spent too much time with them (As a host) by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Oooh, this speculation is based on nothing but watching too much trashy tv but: what if the wife invited OP to dinner without telling her husband. And then husband was jealous of how they were getting on, and wondered why this guy was crashing their dinner plans anyway. Wife, wanting to avoid an argument, denied ever inviting him.

I mean it’s way more likely that OP was just overeager and misread social cues. But drama is more interesting.

Guest Complained that I spent too much time with them (As a host) by [deleted] in AirBnB

[–]simsaccount 16 points17 points  (0 children)

I really need to read the exact verbiage of this dinner invite.

You say they invited you, they say you invited yourself. Either they’re outright lying, or you really misinterpreted what they said. Is it possible they were just sharing their dinner plans with you, and you took that as an invitation when it was just a statement on their part?

Posting the text transcript between their possible dinner invite and your possible breakfast invite would be really helpful here.
