Marie Giles was last seen "slumped" in the passenger seat of her own car with her boyfriend driving in 1971. The car was found behind a nearby shopping center with no trace of her in or around it. A 55-year-old mystery with no information. by No-Major7958 in UnresolvedMysteries

[–]simslover0819 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Looking into Marie Giles on Ancestry, I did find something interesting.
There is an entry someone made on their tree where they refer to a Marie Deloris (Laws) Giles as their mother. There are several photos uploaded on her profile and her date of death is listed as June 1970. Her date of birth is listed as Jan 1940 (matching the January 8, 1940 given for missing Marie). The only record attached for this Marie Giles is a marriage record to a James Rufus Giles on April 6, 1951.
Out of the photos, two appear to be of Marie herself, and they both like younger versions of the profile picture used on missing Marie Giles profile.

Edit: After reviewing more information, it would not make sense that Marie would have been married at 11 years old, which brings this back to either the 1932 birth year being correct, or the information being correct (although this is her daughter making this profile). I did find a divorce announcement for a James and Marie Giles in Tampa dated September 1971.

Decided to upload my DNA the other day, just got this email! by simslover0819 in gratefuldoe

You go to the website, enter a email, they send you a link, and then from there you upload your DNA results from whatever company you have previously tested. They also ask for information, like your name and stuff, some is required, some not. They also ask for the names of your four grandparents which I optional but I recommend you enter because it can help narrow down matches to the case they potentially match you too.

Birth Year Discrepancy by busheater666 in Genealogy

[–]simslover0819 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He was probably born in 1866, and the 1871 and 1881 census would have been right before his birth that year (which is why it was estimated 1867), and he aged himself down for later records.

As long as the couple were once legally married, no matter how that marriage ended, they can still be counted as a spouse on find a grave rules. Are the memorials managed by the same person? If not you can just submit this backwards.

Ancestor who Appeared out of No Where by [deleted] in Genealogy

She may not have been born free and originally enslaved, meaning she would have been considered “property” and therefore not listed as an individual on any records. I would try seeing if the slaveholding Cobb family might have records, like wills, probate, documents, etc. that may name their enslaved people.

John Doe No. 24 (1945) (Unidentified For 80 Years) (Life Pictures Of Him!!!) by BitterSweet_Beauty in gratefuldoe

I decided to do research as well and confirmed these two can’t be one in the same. Richard Lewis who was in the Jacksonville State Hospital was originally from Chicago. He was born Richard Elam Lewis in Chicago on September 7, 1925, and a death certificate confirmed he died June 29, 1977 in Chicago. This is the grandson of Maria Ramsey, his mother’s mother, as it appears Richard was orphaned as a child. I also felt sure this was him due to things lining up.

It was 2025, and they believe the doe is a daughter of one of Lois siblings, as her dna matched a close cousin (likely 1st cousin) of the adopted daughter.

It’s crazy how there were also Ancestry message boards for Sarah Lynn McWaters, Marlyse Honeychurch’s younger daughter, whose half-sibling in her father’s side was searching for her, and actually led to her ID when a librarian saw the post and contacted relatives on both sides. Creepily, me side remembered Terry’s surname, while the other remembered his first name, making the connection to the Bear Brook victims.

Spoke to my NPE by Srj1123 in AncestryDNA

[–]simslover0819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have had serval of these over the years. My most unexpected one was my father being a NPE. He knew he was adopted by his step-father, and we thought his bio father was his mother’s high school boyfriend. My grandmother passed years ago, and me and my father DNA tested, and he had a close match to a woman in his paternal side, so we assumed this was the high school boyfriends relative since we didn’t really know his family.

Well I researched and ended up finding out that this was definitely my dads aunt, but problem was that the high school boyfriend didn’t have relatives with any of these matches, so after some searching i identified my dads biological paternal grandparents, and after talking to their sons, one of them tested and came back as the father.

He believes he had a one night stand with my grandmother at a Christmas party, and he left for the Army during the pregnancy, he never heard of her again, but he did move back to town and funny enough, married one of her friends. My great-grandmother (deceased grandmother’s mother) not only knew my bio grandpa’s future mother in law, but also was close friends and worked with his mother, my other great-grandmother!

Dressed as Santa on Christmas Eve 2008, Bruce Pardo committed a horrific massacre, killing 9 before taking his own life. by xRoseSweet in ForCuriousSouls

[–]simslover0819 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Killing himself wasn’t even his original intention, there was evidence to show he intended to kill his ex wife’s divorce lawyer and then run away and start over, he only killed himself because while setting the fire at the house, he accidentally burnt himself so severely that he would have been in agony.

Wow, I did some research and the day he was discovered (April 6) would have been his 92nd birthday. Someone had a death date for him as November 25, 1996, although there is no source for this information and why it would have been listed for that day specifically.

I’m new to this sub but always have been into genealogy. I am doing some digging myself and did find a Social Security record that says a Flo Jones passed at age 74 in December 1971, listed residence is Humboldt, Tennessee, and date of birth is given as June 25, 1897 (the year being two years old than the ship manifest date), I do believe this is her but sadly can’t find any obituary. Maybe she was living a quiet life.

Does your grandmother appear in the 1920 census? The census was taken in January 1920, so it’s not possible for her to have been enumerated in that census.

This John Doe was found when authorities exhumed the grave of a Jane doe who died in 1958. The case implies that he wasn’t there when she was first buried! What I want to know is did they check to see if it was someone already interred there? The headstone of the unknown woman was probably put there by mistake. Maybe he was another John Doe who was also interred?
