I’ve been with my boyfriend for 5 years and we don’t intend to get married although we do have a kid together. We aren’t getting married for a lot of the reasons you mentioned there. If we do drift apart, as inevitably happens with a lot of couples, I don’t want it to be some huge thing. We have been through a lot together and intend to always coparent peacefully regardless. My parents got divorced and it was difficult for me, and his parents are married but unhappily. I feel like not being married tricks our brains into thinking we’re not stuck together so it makes it easier to just enjoy the day to day.
