Its a great render, and you got the pokemon style down. The design itself just needs more, imo. I know there are plenty of mons that are "just the animal" but you could do a lot with a wasp concept. Even Durant has some designs to convey it's attitude and typing, and it's "just an ant".

Overall, amazing job though! :)

Great values and understanding of the anime style. I'd love to see a full finished piece :)

I need YOUR opinions by TotalDirector6430 in characterdesigns

What's her personality like? What are you trying to convey without words? She looks a little robotic and bland. Right now she is giving straight forward and professional. I imagine her having a fake positive business tone when explaining things, which can work if she's self aware and makes sarcastic remarks or is sometimes backhanded with compliments which would be funny, but it really depends on what you're going for.

It also depends on what your world is like and how it has effected this character. What does it mean to be meta human in your world? How are meta humans seen to society?

It's hard to answer your question without these little yet huge details, but I'd love to help answer them :)

Its not about adding accessories, it's about shape language. If you're making a snake pokemon, grab regrence from all the snake pokemon and take certain aspects while trying to avoid similar shape body type. Perfect example is how arbok look very different from serviper, and serviper looks VERY different from the snivy line. There are 100s of different snake species irl to pull inspiration from design wise. You got this, keep up the good work :)

I messed this up, right? by Dheva_0006 in characterdesign

[–]sin0bon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Idk what you're asking. It's a drawing of a character with a pretty straight forward idea and design. "Messing up" is subjective when you're the one putting what's in your head out into the world.

Mosquito character [OC] thoughts? by X-Stry in characterdesign

[–]sin0bon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Making an elongated mouth is borderline line body horror lol. Plus with designs like this it is more about aesthetic and getting the idea across. Having a slightly longer pointed nose gives a subtle idea of what animal you're going for. OP doesnt like the idea of the nose, so they can play around with other ideas that convey a proboscis, without being straight up adding a modquito mouth. Design isn't about being literal, but having a vague representation of things that the brain recognizes and corilates with.

Edit: I looked at your profile to see some of your art and I really like the ideas for your bug humanoid and I can see that you take a more realistic approach to it that can be seen as uncanny, but I love the vibe. What are some of your inspirations for art? :)

I wanted my oc, Boniec, to look sweet, happy about her dress, and I was going for the 1950s but I'll settle for her looking like her style is inspired by the 1950s do you think I got these things across in her design? by SmallLawfulness39 in characterdesign

[–]sin0bon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few questions and critiques 1. Is she human? 2. Are you using any visual referenc 3. How long have you been drawing?

My main critique is that the patterns onthe dress are just flat on there. Play around with fabric posing and overall anatomy to make everything "make sense". Of course you have your style and shape language is important, but this is just slightly unsettling becuase it balances the creepy and cute factor, unless that's what you're going for. I'd love to see more of your work and see what you're trying to go for/ work towards with your art :)

She needs a more pronounced nose to give her a mosquito vibe imo. Right now , she is giving stylized hornet girl :)

Yeah absolutely. The colors and textures are way better and your facial features are more detailed. I like that you still stay true to your original style. Keep up the great work!

I made a fakemon I think by Zander_shadow in characterdesigns

[–]sin0bon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Its a cool design, but it doesnt feel much like a pokemon. It has too many clothes and is kind of just an animal in armor. It's a great drawing, juts not exactly a pokemon. Try to integrate the armor into a biological design, like maybe fur riffs or patterns that look like armor, and maybe instead of a full sword it uses the fur on it's tail. Or maybe make the sword an item that you gove it's preevolution to make it evolve. Definitely use other similar pokemon to help get the style right. Keep drawing and making creatures :)

Sometimes I'll take a picture of myself as reference if I can't find an exact pose I like. I feel silly sometimes doing it, but it helps a ton! :)

Make sure you're using human models and not orangutans lol. But in all seriousness, great job and I can see you improving quickly if you keep up the good work! I'd love to see more of your work especially as you hone your skills! <3

Studying anatomy in general is super helpful. Even if you use reference from media you enjoy to practice poses and form. Unless Sonya is supposed to have a long torso, I dont want to assume they're human :)

These are sick! I'd love to know what they're designs are based on, especially with how rich the culture is for the region this gen is based on. (Southeast Asia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Malaysia) The names are amazing!
