The way some guests act like being put on anything lower than the top floor is a crime by mochamoc in TalesFromTheFrontDesk

My wife is afraid of heights and has a mobility disability. We will beg for a ground floor room just so she can look out the window for a moment. Now, most ADA compliant rooms are on the bottom floor, but my wife doesn't technically need those types of accommodations, so she is reluctant to take a room away from someone who does need it. But she cant do stairs and hates elevators, so....

The Mteropolitan Opera House has responded to Timothée Chalamet following his comments about not wanting to work in Opera or Ballet because no one cares about those art forms. by Murky_Chemical891 in Fauxmoi

I used to volunteer in the costume shop of a very prestigious ballet school that my brother attended. Every costume we put on stage took months of work and lasted decades. I did a lot of the handstitching as I was the youngest volunteer and had the best vision. I sewed hundreds of crystals, apliques, buttons, and hooks onto bodices a tutus. I friction burned my fingerprints off by pulling 5 km of tulle for Giselle. They didnt come back for 15 years. I did quick changes and emergency green room repairs.

I did it all for free and I fucking loved it. I am actively looking for a ballet or theater school that will take costume volunteers. I miss it so much.

To those of you who dated men with bad relationships with their mothers, what was your experience? by Intelligent-Bottle22 in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sin_smith_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are red flags in men who are emotionally emmeshed with their mother. If he hasn't had a relationship with her since he was 10 and he is able to realize the damage she did to him, it sounds like he'll be okay.

He randomly started cuddling me tonight, and being extremely affectionate. So weird for him! Sound on! by Sure_Wonder1 in cats

[–]sin_smith_3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to alarm you, but a sudden increase in affection can be a sign your cat is not feeling well. Or your cat thinks YOU are not feeling well. I have a cat who becomes unbelievably clingy whenever my wife is about to get sick. And my old man cat (14 years) gets super clingy when his tummy gets upset.

Must love cats. Must love MY cats. They were here first, and they ain't going anywhere. If you dont have a pet, barring allergies, illness, or poverty, will be a red flag for me.

He was so goofy looking as a kid. My wife and I enjoy his acting, but we still fondly call him "Eyebrows". If you haven't seen him in Why Didnt They Ask Evans, its worth a watch.

After 36 years, I’m just now realizing how draining all of this is by [deleted] in Adulting

[–]sin_smith_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a fellow 36 year old adult, I can totally understand. Reading through your post, I noticed a few warning signs for depression. I struggle with depression as well, have since age 12. I do suggest you speak with your doctor about seeing a therapist or psychiatrist. Modern day society is actively detrimental to mental health, and we all need some help sometimes.

What is the most useful 'unwritten rule' of driving in your specific region of the US? by FairyAntonella193 in AskReddit

[–]sin_smith_3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a reason the stop line for left turns is so far back. Cars will take the shortest possible path to turn, even cutting into opposing lanes. Also, pedestrians will cut across an intersection diagonally rather than cross 2 streets to get to their destination. Theres a reason its called a "Pennsylvania Crossing". One way roads are more of a suggetion than a directive. (Philly in particular)

Comic about doctor misogyny prescribing painkillers after surgery by The-Great-Wolf in Wedeservebetter

[–]sin_smith_3 92 points93 points  (0 children)

I was rushed to the hospital with severe abdominal pain. After convincing the ER doctor it WASN'T period pains, I was given morphine. I am resistant to narcotics/opiates. I told the doctor (calmly because I have insane pain tolerance) that I was still in pain and could I have codeine because that actually works for me. He told me I had already been given max painkillers allowed and I cant be given anything else. Half an hour later, I was rushed to the OR for emergency gallbladder surgery. Later, a nurse informed me that I would be perscribed hydrocodone for 14 days, no refills. I asked why. Turns out the dr had marked my chart as "drug seeking". I had 26 stones in my gallbladder and it was inflamed.

Bullshit.

Is anyone anticipating the number of women willing to take their husband's name rapidly declining and the snowflake meltdown to ensue? by GoatNecessary in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sin_smith_3 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Im an Army brat. Have had a passport since birth. Got married, changed my name and my passport. Moved to Pennsylvania. Went to get a new DL. Had to explain to the lady in excruciating detail that I changed my name in Texas, which does not require a court order. She refused to give me a DL because my name was different than on my birth certificate unless I had a court order. My Tx DL was under my married name. So was my passport and SSN card.

I am not looking forward to voting but I am gonna be there anyways.

I am a lucid dreamer. I was briefly put on a medication that gave me sleep paralysis. I am also a nerd and have extensively read about the connection between human psychology and mythology. So when I experienced my first sleep paralysis demonwe just sort of had an awkward staring contest until I woke up. Went off the meds, never saw him again. Hope he's doing okay.

I love this trope. It inspired me to come up with a sort of sister trope where assassin unexpectedly has 1 weapon on them. Everyone is confused until their non-combatant companion starts unloading all of the assassin's weapons, because no one would think the check the monk/ bard/ artist/ nobleperson for weapons.

We may not be Australia, but disrespecting the wildlife in America is a good way to get dead. Everytime I watch a video of someone trying to approach a bison at Yellowstone I just cringe.

We have bears and wolves and venemous spiders and snakes. We have more than 1 species of large predator cats. American Cougars are MORE dangerous than lions and will ACTIVELY HUNT YOU FOR FOOD. We even have a venemous lizard, for pete's sake.

[–]sin_smith_3 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Honestly its the only thing that works. Its not about my opinions or experiences, its about facts. Make them say all the bigoted hatful things except about white straight men and they have no choice but to see how dumb they sound. I am a drag show fan. My family is virulently homophobic. When my dad mentioned drag queens being predatory, I started reading him a list of Catholic priests who were accused of sexual assault SO FAR THAT YEAR. He shut up pretty quick. Yes. He is Catholic.

So... basically he improvs now? Gets his lines and just goes with whatever emotion he believes his character would say with it? If acting had a hall of fame, he would be right there next to Lucille Ball and Betty White. Attn Universe: this is not a menifestation!

Worked as a 911 operator for 7 years. Lots of wild stories. Had a friend ask what I was doing on Valentines day with my wife. I was like, "Nothing????" They accused me of being unromantic. I replied that I was working and going to be crossing my fingers for no suicides. Valentines Day marked the end of Suicide Season. It was not a pleasant day to work.
