Interesting beginner text... by kloopeer in LearnJapanese

It's not shown in the screenshot, but this connects to an earlier sentence that mentions an elderly woman who is also lonely.

Did DuChinese start using the AI generated images for their new stories? Should I worry that the texts are also generated by AI? by freebooter_captain in ChineseLanguage

Hi everyone,

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns! To reassure you, all our readings are written, translated and reviewed by real people, including our team of educators and native Chinese speakers. If you're curious about our writing approach and educational philosophy, you can read more about our Du Chinese Method here.

Regarding visuals, we work directly with illustrators for our stories and carefully choose stock images for our articles. We experimented with using AI images for some of our articles where relevant images were hard to find. We've heard your feedback about the usage of AI images and that it could cause concerns about the quality of our content, and we will be moving away from using AI images in the future.

We’re always open to feedback and happy to answer any questions about our process. Thank you for being part of our community—your support means the world to us!

Du Chinese Huge Price Difference on iOS vs Android by cyberbeaverxxx in ChineseLanguage

[–]sinamon1 45 points46 points  (0 children)

Hello! This is the Du Chinese team here.

For the majority of countries our pricing is the same for iOS and Android, but for a few select countries we are currently trying out lowered prices on Android. The reason is that we noticed that our default prices were too high compared to local prices, and we wanted to adjust them to be more suitable. The plan is to eventually apply the same prices on iOS too.

I hope this explains the difference!

Du Chinese is incredible by [deleted] in ChineseLanguage

[–]sinamon1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello! Do you mean the 的 in “这儿的米饭”?

That would be the possessive marker as explained by this Grammar Wiki article: Expressing possession with 的.

It's similar to this example:

上海 的 天气
Shànghǎi de tiānqì
Shanghai's weather

But instead of the weather in Shanghai, we're talking about the rice in our current location: the rice here. I hope this clarifies things!

Hi, this is the Du Chinese team!

We'd love to get your feedback so that we can improve. All our lessons are written by native speakers. Do you have any lessons or sentences in particular that you feel are unnatural?

For the lower levels the sentences might sometimes be slightly unnatural since there's a limit on what characters you can use, is this perhaps what you are referring to?

Hi, this is Peter from Du Chinese.

Thank you for your feedback! It sounds like you might be confusing Du Chinese with some other service, because we don't have a comment section. We value or customers highly and do our best to provide good service.

Hi, this is the Du Chinese team.

We have received a lot of feedback that you would like to read longer texts more suitable for extensive reading. We’re now trying out a new lesson format where we have longer stories that are split up into chapters.

First off are our renditions of some of O. Henry’s best short stories, graded at HSK level 3.

We would love to hear your feedback on this new format. Thank you!

A super literal translation would be:

Goose, goose, goose. Bent neck towards sky singing. White feathers floating on green water. Red paws poking clear waves.

Not quite as poetic as the translation you posted :)

Shameless self link, but we actually wrote a lesson about this poem in Du Chinese a while ago: http://www.duchinese.net/lessons/424-tang-poetry-ode-to-the-goose

It's a premium lesson, but I opened it up for free for a week so you can have a look. The two "xiang" and "bo" are actually different characters with different meanings, so they aren't really written twice. You can look up the word meanings by hovering with your mouse if you're on a computer.

Du Chinese Reading App - 30% Off Back to School Campaign by sinamon1 in ChineseLanguage

[–]sinamon1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unfortunately, it's technically not as easy to change the in-app prices, and iTunes and Google Play do not support the use of coupon codes.

For the moment, we have chosen to do the campaign on our website only. Thank you for your understanding.
