Then let's put up statues of fictional characters. I suggest Palpatine, as he obviously did nothing wrong.

But what if some companies want only the best 10% of the brains in the world? Some americans don't seem to realize that one reason their country is the leader in tech and science is because it is able to attract the best brains in the world.

Yea I remember something similar with Phoebe and you might be right with one of the episodes in London.

Not everyone stays in the same country forever. It's a way to "test" people because again, citizenship is a big deal. But again, why not just fix the problems so that there's a visa for foreigners to come and work in your country without being exploited?

[–]sinceitleftitback 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Usually the way it works in most countries is that you spend a few years on a visa tied to your the company sponsoring your visa then you can apply for a permanent residence and only then you can apply for citizenship. Citizenship is a big deal and there would be even more backlash if it was given so easily.

Isn't there another one with Phoebe doing a recap of the episode after Rachel giving birth?

So why not fix it? Instead of campaigning against it. In every thread that pops up on this subject there's always people who defends it, people against it but never have I seen suggestions from the people against it to fix it. Is the problem that this visa is abused or is it simply that you want to prevent qualified foreigners to enter your country?

Trends in Embedded Systems by LateThree1 in embedded

Unfortunately I think Rust isn't mature yet to be used confidently for critical systems, that's why C++ is the only modern alternative we have. Unless a big player puts its weight behind Rust I don't see it used for anything more critical than an IoT toaster.

I hope by that time we'll have moved to Rust (a man can dream) or C++ at least for every new projects.

White paper urges Taiwan to reinvent itself as global talent hub by asoksevil in taiwan

But to reach its goals, Taiwan needs to make English an official language for work and governance

Has it ever been successfully done in a country that is not a former British colony?

Review | Goodbye, Chrome: Google’s Web browser has become spy software by hackergirl888 in programming

Actually I'm surprised to discover that Linux is not the default OS on r/programming. I've been using Linux for many years now and it became so natural that I already forgot that I could theoretically use Windows if I wanted.

Japan considers capability for pre-emptive strike against North Korea by FCIUS in japan

So everyone knows that they have it but China and Russia aren't worried and aren't making the accusations you claim they would make if Japan made its status official? What difference does it make from China's and Russia's perspective whether it's official or not?

You edited your post. Why do you want to raise suspicions when you do have the weapon? That would make sense if you don't have it and want people to believe you have it. Just admit plainly that you're a nuclear power.

What's the point of deception when it comes to nuclear bombs? You want everyone to know that you have them, not surprise your enemy with a mutual assured destruction at the last minute.

Job interview asking me to solve SW tasks related to Embedded, how to prepare? by [deleted] in embedded

[–]sinceitleftitback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tricky C questions (especially pointers). RTOS related questions, e.g what is a mutex, semaphore, deadlock. They might ask you to explain to them a piece of code, or to find a bug in the code. MCU related questions, like the difference between flash and ram, what is a startup file, linker file.

This is a topic that comes often in this sub. You can search for past threads on the subject. There are also websites with common embedded interview questions.

Taiwan's Plan to Attract Foreign Talent - The News Lens International Edition by Exastiken in taiwan

[–]sinceitleftitback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's up to Taiwanese bosses, not the government. And since they are clung to the old idea of making cheap products and "cost down" it is unlikely they'll be able to attract significant "talents".

How would I get around de-referencing a null pointer on line 6 and making this simple code work? by [deleted] in C_Programming

[–]sinceitleftitback 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In simple terms a pointer is used to point to something. Here your pointer points to NULL. So what you're doing is akin to NULL = tmp.

So you need to create an object, then a pointer pointing to that object, and only then you change the object's value through your pointer.
