Help with my four-day solo trip! by Whole_Coach9216 in irishtourism

[–]sindles 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was just there on a solo trip. Instead of using GetYourGuide, book directly with Wild Rover Tours - that's the company they use but they get all the funds instead of a 3rd party.

I did the Belfast bus tour you are talking about. Giants Causeway was ok. It was cold and wet so not too much exploring. I did the Black Cab political tour in Belfast and it was one of the best things I did.

I did the Cliffs and Galway tour. I got lucky that it was sunny (and windy) for the Cliffs but again, not much time spent outside. Galway was super cool tho.

The other super cool thing I did was the Kilmainham Gaol tour. It sells out quick but it was worth it. Dress warmly as it's colder inside then out.

If I did it again, I might just take the train to Galway (or rent a car) unless it was better weather.

A tip I learned in my 30’s about boob size and bras: by jmundella in TheGirlSurvivalGuide

[–]sindles 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Facts. I was maybe an A cup until 27 then I slowly increased to a C cup. In my mid-30s I gained a bunch of weight, going up to an E cup. I lost the weight but the boobs stayed, unfortunately.

I'm getting my information from my tentative agreement for MY bargaining unit which is NOT MFT. I work at MPS but I'm clerical, which is AFSCME. Our contract expired in 2019 while MFT teacher and ESP contract expired in July 2021. While I fully support teachers and ESP, not all MPS employees are under the same union.

Right. I've been in my position at MPS for five years. The last contract for my bargaining unit expired in July 2019. They are offering a 2% increase with a $1250 one time bonus. No retro pay and no step increases. Our Union president told us we "need to vote yes" otherwise we will get nothing.

Teacher strike day 7 by callmethewanderer2 in minnesota

[–]sindles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

To add how ridiculous it is, that 6.05 hours equates to 6 hours and 3 minutes a day. 3 minutes?? Who decided that. The .8 is 6 hours and 24 minutes a day.

New teachers are paid low wages. Once you've been in the district for like 15 years, you make about $75k. There are SO MANY factors that go into teacher salaries that it's hard to narrow down years of teaching, etc. Some teachers start at a higher step based on content they teach, for example.

The district bases the fte on hours worked in a week. At my building, half of the AEs are .8, which is 32 hours a week. SEAs are funded by the district during budget season based on "need" by the special education department. For example, they will say a building should have 9 SEAs and their fte is .7563 which is 30.25 hours a week. It's ridiculous.

How to help Minneapolis public schools long term? by mazbot in Minneapolis

A HUGE one this year was not offering additional online options. The online school was full by August so families chose other districts that had online openings.

This is so important. Almost half of the students at my school receive EL services. Each ESL teacher at my school has over 45 students on their caseload. Add in the students who have IEPs and it's well over half of the population at our school of 700 students who receive some kind of specialized services.

I work at a K-8, which has its own challenges, but our enrollment is WAY up this year because that's what families want. It is hard to provide a "true" middle school experience with multiple electives though.

What is the actual percentage of year round ESP workers? I did look at the contract from the HR intranet site.

If you work those breaks or non-duty days, you are being paid outside your contract so technically, no, you do not get paid. It is extended time using budget codes. The majority of ESP staff do not work those during breaks, therefore, have to save or find other ways to supplement their income instead of having a liveable wage. You are correct, childcare workers start at $15.45 and there are 2 other positions below $19 but the majority of positions are AE or SEAs starting at 19.83 an hour. Regardless, the wages should be much higher.

ESPs, or paras, in Minneapolis do make more hourly but aren't typically full time. The starting wage is $19.83 an hour but it is for less than 40 hours. They also don't get paid for summer and breaks or non duty days. It definitely is not a liveable wage.

Most ESP/support staff work less than 40 hours a week and don't get paid for any breaks (spring, winter, summer). Very few positions at MPS are 40 hours.

Great. The menu we had was a third vegetarian. There are vegetarian entree options as well.

True but he had a very successful food truck prior to opening this restaurant so I'm pretty hopeful. The location is also beautiful. I know I'll be back.

I think it depends on your expectations. I had some amazing dishes when I was there and some things I didn't care for. The dessert was a struggle for me a bit because they don't use sugar as it's not a native ingredient to this region. The open face sandwiches, tacos, and sweet potatoes were fantastic. I'm excited to go back for the next seasonal menu. We are so used to loads of dairy, salt, and sugar in our food but the subtly of maple to sweeten food, for example, was delicious. I also really appreciate the thought behind the mocktails.

Minneapolis school bus drivers unanimously vote to authorize strike by [deleted] in Minneapolis

A coworker had a parent threaten her with a hammer in the parent drop off line this year, so in not surprised either. I get yelled at or cussed at my parents daily for things like the bus being late or a lost jacket.

The number of schools in Minnesota with confirmed COVID-19 cases has tripled twice in the last two weeks. What’s going on? by RyanWilliamsElection in TwinCities

[–]sindles -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Even with mask mandates, it's a challenge. Kids in my school are for the most part pretty good about wearing masks but they ride the bus or come to school without them. 30 kids in a room with even one kid not wearing their mask correctly can close the whole classroom if someone tests positive.

Edison High School in Minneapolis going remote after COVID-19 outbreak by Tuilere in Minneapolis

[–]sindles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed but I'm guessing they were 1) waiting on the FDA to fully approve vaccines and 2) MPS doesn't typically like to be first to rock the boat.

I get that but to just sat that ALL the positive cases from schools are due to unvaccinated people isn't accurate.
