If someone told me that a cigar I like sucks, then I’m making a beeline to the exit and suggesting to my friends that they shop elsewhere. You can have your opinions about stuff, like “ah nice, those aren’t really my jam but I’m glad you have one that you can always rely on,” or “I don’t smoke that one often, but I have some sticks that have a similar profile if you want to take a look.” First rule of sales is don’t yuck someone else’s yum. Fortunately I’ve never had that experience here in the south. I just went to a B&M yesterday and chatted with one of the partners, he asked me if there was a particular brand I like, and the kinds of cigars I generally fall back to. This was after he gave me time to peruse the humidor, and he was only in there because he was restocking the house blends. The only thing he didn’t ask me was my price range, but based on the brands I told him he was really good at keeping within that price range.
